The country music star Trace Adkins has enjoyed decades of success in the entertainment industry, but that doesn’t mean it was all roses. In a new interview, he’s revealing the warnings about Hollywood he’s shared with his daughter Mackenzie.

Adkins’ Advice For Mackenzie

Mackenzie, 26, just came in third place on the reality show Claim to Fame. Prior to going on the show, Mackenzie told her father that she was contacted on social media by a casting agency. After going back and forth with the person trying to cast her, Mackenzie became skeptical that this opportunity was really going to happen for her.

Turns out, she was right to be skeptical, according to Dad.

“I’m glad you’ve learned something. That’s the way you have to always deal with everything Hollywood,” Adkins, 62, told Mackenzie as they were interviewed by Fox News. “Because, yeah, I’ve had so many things, and most of which I’ve forgotten about, but there have been so many, so many things in my career that were connected to Hollywood. And they never happened.”

Though Adkins has typically stuck to music, he’s acted on film and television on various occasions over the years. Most recently, he starred alongside Susan Sarandon in the FOX family drama Monarch.

Adkins wants his daughter to know that when it comes to Hollywood, false promises are everywhere.

“They tell you, ‘Oh, yeah, we’re going to do this. We’re going to do that, and it’s this is moving along,'” Adkins lamented. “And then all of a sudden, one day you realize, well, I haven’t heard from those people in six months. And it just went away.”

Mackenzie’s Casting For Claim To Fame

Mackenzie replied by saying that this is how she felt while going through the casting process for Claim To Fame.

“I looked it up, and I watched both the seasons and I made sure it was a real show,” she recalled. “But I did, like, so many interviews, and I met so many different casting directors and … producers were calling me, telling me, ‘You’re in the top 25, you’re in the top 15, you’ve made the top couple; we’re not sure yet.’ So, I was like, I don’t want to get that excited, and then it not happen.”

Mackenzie gave her family just one day’s notice before leaving to film the show.

Claim To Fame features contestants with famous relatives. They live together while trying to figure out who each contestant may be related. Meanwhile, they must keep their own celebrity connection a secret.

Mackenzie made it all the way to the finale, coming in third place behind Adam Christoferson (Michael Bolton’s nephew) and Hud Mellencamp (John Mellencamp’s son).

‘He’s Always Just Been Dad’

As for growing up with a famous father, Mackenzie hasn’t been fazed by it.

“He’s always just been dad,” she said. “He was always on the road when we were little. I mean, I’ve been going on the road with him since I was born, essentially. We were out every summer. Once I was in school, every single summer we were out on the road with dad.I’ve definitely just been used to it.”

“I can’t even imagine how strange it must be to have grown up backstage at the Grand Ole Opry,” Adkins responded. “I mean, you know, since she was big enough to walk and all her sisters and … it’s just that’s the way they grew up. They don’t know anything else.”

“They’re not impressed,” he concluded. “They’re not impressed by me now. I would say, if I can kick the soccer ball all the way over the house, then they’re impressed. But they’re not impressed by the other stuff.”

It seems that Adkins raised a young woman with a good head on her shoulders. In the end, we could all learn a lot from his advice about Hollywood!
