Country music star Gretchen Wilson, 51, is one bad mama. How bad? Just ask her about how many bar fights she’s been in!
Wilson’s Bar Fight History
While appearing on the “Taste of Country Nights” radio show, Wilson was asked if she’d ever been in a “real-deal fistfight.”
“Too many to count,” she said proudly, going on to say that it had been awhile since her last altercation. “I would say the last time I was in a knock-down, drag-out, bar brawl type situation would have been probably 25 years ago.”
Wilson then said that she stopped fighting “right before things started happening for me.”
Wilson skyrocketed to fame with the 2004 release of her hit single “Redneck Woman.” She had been struggling to get by at the time. (And, apparently, getting in fist fights!)
“They had repossessed my vehicle that morning,” she said of the day she first heard “Redneck Woman” on the radio. “You don’t get [any] money until you’re out there touring, so the song comes out, and you’re still sitting there penniless.”
When the tow truck driver came to get the car in the early hours of the morning, he noticed there was a child’s car seat in the back. He gave Wilson the chance to take it out.
“He let me get the car seat out. Wasn’t that nice of him?” she recalled. “And when I started the car as he was getting ready to hook it up, ‘Redneck Woman’ was playing on the radio.”

‘I’m Nasty That Way’
One of Wilson’s other biggest hits is “The Earring Song.” It was named one of “Taste of Country’s” best fighting songs.
“Don’t make me take my earrings out / ‘Cause I’ll show you what a cat fight’s all about / I’ll throw you down and mop the floor / A man like mine’s worth fighting for,” Wilson sings in the song.
This led to Wilson to talk more about her upbringing in her latest interview.
“I’m from a little town where the fighting gets dirty,” she said, admitting that she’s been punched in the face before. “I mean, I was taught to fight by my Uncle Vernon and it’s dirty fighting.”
“I mean, you definitely don’t want to get into it with me ’cause I’m nasty that way,” she continued. “I’ll pull your shirt up over your face and start hitting you with a pool stick.”

Wilson’s Previous Arrest
Wilson was previously arrested back in 2018 after a disturbance on a commercial flight with another passenger. During the incident, Wilson was reportedly “belligerent.” However, the charges against her were later dropped.
“I’m saddened by the whole thing,” she told Taste Of Country after her arrest. “I don’t know that I could say — I mean, I’m embarrassed that that situation got to where it was, but not personally.”
It appears that Wilson has managed to avoid any further fights in the years since then. It’s fun that she has such a wild history. However, it’s probably for the best that she’s keeping things peaceful now!
