Last year, we reported that the country music star Colt Ford had suffered a near-death heart attack in April of 2024. Now, Ford is opening up about this heart attack, making sure to thank God for giving him a second chance at life after he “died two times”.
Ford’s Heart Attack
On April 4, 2024, Ford was preparing to perform in Arizona when he nearly dropped dead while suffering a heart attack. As he was rushed to hospital, Ford died not once, but twice en route. He was then in a coma for the next eight days.
When Ford finally woke up in the hospital, he knew immediately that this entire ordeal was a sign from God.
“God just told me, I need to sit down and pay attention to what’s going on around me,” Ford, 54, told Fox News eleven months later.
“And I think try to use it for … something as positive as I can … no matter what it is, I’m meant to have that second chance,” he continued. “That just doesn’t happen. You know? … It is such a gift. I realize how precious some things are now, and it makes me focus a little bit differently.”
No kidding… and a third chance, technically!

Ford’s Life Has Changed
Ford went on to open up about how nearly dying has changed his life forever.
“Wow. It’s been pretty profound, for sure,” Ford admitted. “It just makes you realize some of the things you think are important or that maybe you were chasing as a younger man or a younger person … they’re not really that important.”
“I’ve always been … an alpha male kind of guy,” he added. “And all of a sudden, I wake up out of a coma and I can’t even feed myself ice out of a Styrofoam cup. … It’s very humbling.”
As for what led to his heart attack, Ford believes that it was partly due to unhealthy food choices that he made while on the road touring.
“I’m from Georgia. … We fry things, we put butter on it, we put gravy on it,” he explained. “I’d love to eat my mama’s cubed steak and rice and gravy and mac and cheese. I love all that stuff. And, I loved Zaxby’s and fried chicken … burgers. That’s what I ate on the road, too.”
Since his heart attack, Ford has changed his diet around. These days, he’s cut way back on fried foods, only eating them in moderation.
“I broke the cravings for a lot of that stuff … I don’t want to go eat it,” he stated.
When asked what he eats now, Ford replied, “Lots of grilled chicken, lots of grilled stuff. I haven’t had a soda since April, and I used to love me some Mountain Dew. So, no soda, just water. Unsweet tea.”

Ford’s Fitness Routine
Fitness has also become a major part of Ford’s life post-heart attack.
“I’m on the treadmill a lot and trying to get into some yoga and Pilates,” he said with a laugh. “I’m working on all that and just trying to get my strength. It’s a lot of getting your strength back and your balance … but it’s OK. I’m fighting through it, I’m still here. I’m still blessed.”
Though he weighed 350 pounds at one point, Ford is now down to around 190 pounds thanks to these lifestyle changes.
In the end, Ford is just grateful that God gave him a second chance at life, and he’s determined not to waste it.
“I’m trying to make things simpler … get back to the basic stuff,” he concluded. “Just being a good human being, being a good steward of the Earth.”
We’re so glad to see that Ford is doing so well after his terrifying near-death experience. God bless you, Colt Ford!
