The Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood celebrated his 95th birthday on Saturday. This came after a difficult year for Clint, as his longtime girlfriend Christina Sandera, 61, died suddenly of a heart attack in July of last year.

Now, Clint’s actor son Scott, 39, is speaking out to reveal how his father is coping with Christina’s death after the icon celebrated his landmark birthday.

Clint Is ‘A Survivor’

Scott told People Magazine that Clint was “doing good,” adding that “he’s a survivor, a trouper.”

Scott went on to say that his father has never been one to complain.

“He was born coming out of the Great Depression, and then he was young during World War II,” Scott explained. “He saw a lot of struggle. There is no room for complaining.”

Scott made similar comments in another interview earlier this year.

“It’s in our blood,” he said. “You don’t complain, you don’t whine. You just do.”

We can’t argue with that. Indeed, it seems that Clint definitely raised his son right!

Clint Mourns Longtime Girlfriend

This comes after a difficult few months for Clint. His girlfriend Christina, who he’d been dating for ten years, died suddenly on July 18, 2024 at the age of 61. Her official cause of death was a cardiac arrhythmia, a condition that causes the heart’s rhythm to become too slow, rapid or irregular.

“Christina was a lovely, caring woman,” Clint told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “I will miss her very much.”

Clint and Christina met back in 2014. At the time, she was working as a hostess at Clint’s Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. They made their red carpet debut together at the Academy Awards in 2015. Though they kept much of their life private, Christina was Clint’s usual red carpet date in the subsequent years.

Clint Sounds Off On Turning 95

Despite being devastated over Christina’s death, Clint has maintained a positive attitude. One day before his 95th birthday, Clint told the Austrian newspaper Kurier that he still feels like he’s in great physical health. In fact, despite being 95, Clint boasted that nobody needs to worry about his health “for a long time yet.”

“There’s no reason why a man can’t get better with age,” Clint said in the May 30 interview. “And I have much more experience today.”

Clint went on to shockingly reveal that he’s in pre-production for a new movie that he’s set to direct. This came as a surprise, given the fact that his 2024 movie Juror #2 had been billed as his final directorial film.

“Sure, there are directors who lose their touch at a certain age, but I’m not one of them,” Clint added.

Clint then revealed the secret behind his drive that has kept him working for decades.

“I always knew that you can get further with a positive attitude to life than with a negative one,” he said. “You shouldn’t see the glass as half empty. And I had that feeling when I was 25, as an aspiring actor who was contemptuously told by numerous producers that I was a failure. I even heard a little voice inside me back then that said you could do it.”

Clint Has No Plans To Retire

Clint is also motivated to keep making films because like many of us, he’s frustrated by the types of movies Hollywood typically puts out these days.

“We live in an era of remakes and franchises,” he lamented. “I’ve shot sequels three times, but I haven’t been interested in that for a long while. My philosophy is: do something new or stay at home.”

“I didn’t repeat myself, I didn’t always make the same kind of film, I always tried something new,” he continued. “A new genre, a different role.”

In the end, despite what the media has reported in the past, it’s clear that Clint has no plans to retire anytime soon.

“As an actor, I was still under contract with a studio, was in the old system and was therefore forced to learn something new every year,” Clint concluded. “And that’s why I’m going to work while I can still learn something or until I’m really senile.”

Like his son said, Clint is a true survivor. We’d like to wish Clint Eastwood a very happy birthday, and many more to come!
