Carrie Underwood could not help but become emotional on Wednesday night as she honored the country music legend Randy Travis at the 100th anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry.
Underwood Pays Tribute To Travis
It was Travis who welcomed Underwood to the Grand Ole Opry 17 years ago in 2008. Things came full circle last night, when Underwood took the stage to pay tribute to Travis at an event called “Opry 100: A Live Celebration.”
Underwood began by recalling when she first became aware of Travis as a child.
“When I was a kid, my sister had a cassette tape of Randy Travis’ music,” Underwood remembered. “From the first time I heard him sing his traditional country voice and those songs, I was hooked, and I knew my sister was not getting that tape back.”
“The first time I met him, many years later, I cried — embarrassing, but it was so emotional for me to meet this man whose voice I’ve been singing to, and along with my whole life,” she continued. “I could never have imagined that I’d be recording songs with him, or that Randy would become my dear friend, or that he would surprise me on stage and invite me to join the Grand Ole Opry back in 2008.”
“It means so much to me to be here tonight to celebrate the Opry and the amazing Randy Travis by singing two of my favorite songs of his,” Underwood added.

Underwood Performs Travis’ Songs
Underwood proceeded to perform the Travis songs “Three Wooden Crosses” and “Forever and Ever, Amen.” Sadly, Travis suffered a massive stroke in 2013 that left him unable to sing. That’s why it was particularly touching when Underwood walked into the crowd and gave Travis the microphone to sing the last “Amen” of the song. Indeed, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house after that!
“Randy Travis everybody,” Underwood said before hugging Travis as the crowd stood up to give them a standing ovation.

It didn’t take long for the above video to go viral.
“IM NOT CRYING YOU ARE,” one social media user commented. Another added, “THREE WOODEN CROSSES. I was NOT ready.”
“Wow. Tears everywhere as Randy Travis closes with Carrie Underwood,” a third user wrote. Yet another person commented, “Well now I’m crying. That ending was perfect. Thanks for sharing.”
The Grand Ole Opry took to social media to share a throwback photo of when Travis inducted Underwood into the family back in 2008.
“We’ll never forget the moment Randy invited Carrie into the family,” the Grand Ole Opry wrote alongside the image.
