Candace Cameron Bure and Patricia Heaton have long been known as two of the only openly devout Christians in Hollywood. Over the weekend, the two former sitcom stars teamed up to kick off a massive biblical event in Washington D.C.

America Reads The Bible

Cameron Bure, 49, and Heaton, 68, each spoke at the opening ceremony for the “America Reads the Bible” event. Indeed, the event involves political leaders, pastors, and entertainers joining together to read the entire Word of God aloud.

Nearly 500 Christian leaders will be taking part in this event, which is set to last seven days. Even President Donald Trump himself will be participating in the Bible reading ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Bible-reading marathon is taking place at the Museum of the Bible. Heaton, star of Everybody Loves Raymond, began it on Sunday by reading from Genesis 1:

“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth, and the earth was formless and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep,” she said. “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters, and God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light…”

Cameron Bure Speaks Out

The opening ceremony had been livestreamed the night before. It began with Cameron Bure, who is the national spokesperson for America Reads the Bible.

“What a weekend in Washington D.C. for the historic reading of the Holy Bible,” Cameron Bure wrote on Facebook afterwards. “Today we kicked off 7 straight days, 9am to 9pm, over 400 readers, 84 hours reading from Genesis to Revelation. I was honored to be the national spokesperson and read Genesis 6-8.”

“You can live stream this event on PureFlix.com for free,” the former Full House star continued. “Sit down with your families and watch it. From government officials, to farmers, pastors, entertainers, educators, and every day American moms and dads, and even the President. We are all united and reminded that we are equal in God’s eyes. God’s love for us is so patient. Let us be reminded of His wisdom and goodness for us when we repent and rend our hearts to Him…”

President Trump’s Reading

President Trump is scheduled to read from 2 Chronicles 7:11-22 later today between 6pm and 7pm. He will be reading from the Oval Office. America Reads the Bible issued a statement declaring, “This will be a defining spiritual moment in the life of our nation.”

The section that Trump will be reading includes a famous verse about national repentance. It reads: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and several other members of Trump’s cabinet will also be reading. You can check out the full list of readers here.

In the crazy world of Hollywood, it’s rare to find stars who are brave enough to be open about their strong Christian faith. We applaud Cameron Bure and Heaton for having the courage to do just that as they began this biblical event.

God bless you both, Candace Cameron Bure and Patricia Heaton!
