Brendan Fraser says he’s working hard to get in “shape” for the new Mummy movie.
Returning to The Mummy
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fraser did his best not to give anything away about the long‑awaited sequel.
He said, “I was hopeful for a long while, and then I was like, ‘I don’t know if they are.’ Then other Mummy movies got made. But listen, what we’re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations. I should probably stop talking like this, because I don’t want to give everything away.”
He then joked, “However, please wish me luck. I’m doing my best to get this 57‑year‑old gear in shape.”
Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to reprise their roles as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan more than two decades after they last appeared together.
New Screenplay
Directors Matt Bettinelli‑Olpin and Tyler Gillett revealed that both stars were impressed by the new screenplay from Orphan: First Kill writer David Coggeshall.
Gillett told Entertainment Weekly, “William [Sherrick, the producer, was] always way ahead of us. And he was like, ‘Hey, I think I’m gonna get us Mummy.’ In our heads, we’re going, ‘That’d be f****** crazy. There’s no way William’s gonna pull it off.’”
Bettinelli‑Olpin added that the script “had all of the heart and the character that you could hope for.”
He said, “I don’t think Brendan and Rachel are getting involved unless they love that script, and what they read, I think they really liked. It’s a good script. It’s gonna be fun to make.”
Earlier this year, Gillett described the project as “beautiful and scary,” telling Empire, “It is very beautiful and sweeping and scary and fun.”
Wanting to Return

Fraser has long hinted he was open to returning.
Speaking to Deadline, he said, “Hey, anything’s possible at this point. It is speculation, and I would love to tell you … I would love to answer more about that. But my lips are kind of sealed. I am sorry, but I want you to know that there is a definite fan base.”
He also reflected on the enduring love for the franchise.
The actor said, “The fan convention that I just came from in Minnesota … We were there to sign autographs, meet fans, but we did have a question‑answer on stage in front of 3,000 attendees and I thought we were rockstars too so much so like I walked off stage thinking, ‘Man I am gonna get a personality hangover out of those.’ That was a lot of love.”
