The legendary singer Billy Joel has just made a sad announcement about his health that has his fans praying for him.

Joel Cancels Concerts Amidst Devastating Announcement

Joel, 76, took to Instagram on Friday to say that he is cancelling all future tour dates after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Hydrocephalus is the buildup of fluid in the brain, enlarging the ventricles and puts pressure on brain tissue, potentially causing damage and neurological symptoms.”

“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance,” Joel’s statement read. “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.”

The statement went on to say that Joel is “thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage.”

“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” Joel himself later added.

Joel’s Brutal Fall Onstage

This comes months after Joel fell down while performing at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut back in February. Video that quickly went viral shows Joel spin his microphone in the air before tossing it towards the audience. The “Piano Man” singer can then be seen stumbling backwards and falling on his side.

Thankfully, Joel was able to get up and continue on with the show.

Joel’s Postpones Concerts

One month later, Joel announced that he would be postponing all of his concerts through June. At the time, he said that he was doing this because of “medical condition” that required him to “undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors.”

“Joel is expected to make a full recovery,” Joel’s representatives said on March 11. “The tour will resume at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5, 2025.”

Joel addressed this himself in a statement posted to Instagram at the time.

“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,” he wrote. “I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”

Joel is one of the most legendary musical performers alive today. Indeed, his storied career has seen him win five Grammys out of 23 nominations. Joel has sold more than 150 million records and has had 33 Top 40 hits.

On top of that, Joel was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

Joel’s Final Madison Square Garden Show

In July of last year, Joel performed his final show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This put an end to his record-breaking ten-year residency.

“We play a lot bigger places. We play similar arenas, but this is The Garden,” Joel told the audience at one point. “I first came here when I was a little boy. I think I was about 4, 5 years old. My parents brought me to the circus and the star that year was Gene Autry. He had a big hit with ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.'”
