The legendary former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson is speaking out this week to reveal the real reason she left Hollywood.

Anderson Reveals Why She Stepped Away From Hollywood

Anderson, 57, said that she feels “far removed” from her previous sex symbol status after stepping away from Hollywood. These days, Anderson enjoys not wearing makeup at all, preferring to maintain a natural look.

“That was the beginning of me letting go of the image I had always had of myself,” Anderson told Better Homes & Gardens. “What is this cartoon character that I’d created? OK, that was fun. But I’m not that person anymore.”

Born in Canada, Anderson became a superstar in the 1990s when she became known as America’s sex symbol. She holds citizenship in both the U.S. and Canada, and she eventually left the states to move home to her birth nation. In her new interview, Anderson admitted that she was not in a “good space” when she made this move to Canada.

“I don’t know what happened over the last few decades, but I feel now so far removed from the image of who I was,” she said. She added that she “felt very sad and lonely. I felt just misunderstood. I felt like I had really screwed up, that my whole life was a bundle of mistakes.”

Anderson went on to say that she “was hard on myself, and I thought I put my family through a lot and put my kids through so much. I came to a point where I decided to move home and disappear and get into my garden.”

Anderson’s History

Anderson rose to fame when she posed for Playboy Magazine in the February 1990 edition as Playmate of the Month. She later became a household name when she landed the role of C.J. Parker in the drama series Baywatch, which aired from 1992 until 1997.

In her personal life, Anderson was married to the Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee from 1995 until they divorced in 1998. They share two sons, Brandon and Dylan.

These days, Anderson is enjoying a simpler life far away from Hollywood. While some would miss the glamorous entertainment world, Anderson has no regrets.

“But I also played into the image that was created around me,” Anderson concluded. “I’m glad I did all that, but I’m really glad I’m where I am now. I think the most important part is, I made it through all of it. And now it’s such a relief that I get to be myself and enjoy this time.”
