Barry Williams and Maureen McCormick starred as step-siblings Greg and Marcia Brady on the iconic sitcom The Brady Bunch from 1969 until 1974. In a new interview, Williams is finally admitting that he and McCormick engaged in an off-screen romance at the time that was “on-again, off-again.”

We can only say… we knew it! (Just kidding, but didn’t some of you guess?)

Williams Admits He Dated McCormick

On this week’s episode of the rewatch podcast The Real Brady Bros, Williams sat down with his former Brady Bunch co-star Christopher Knight. They proceeded to discuss one of the sitcom’s most famous episodes, “The Subject Was Noses,” which originally aired on February 9, 1973.

During their discussion, Knight talked about the “relationship” that Williams had with McCormick.

“It did look like she was dating somebody very close to her on the set, judging from the relationship that I was witnessing between the two of you during this show,” he recalled.

“You two were looking a little bit close, a little bit less like brother and sister and more like …” Knight added.

“You mean dreamy eyed?” questioned Williams, 70.

“The longing kind of wide-eyed. Yeah. That was you. And she was looking dreamy,” Knight, 67, replied of McCormick. “Yeah. You guys you were going through a good week, I would say.”

Williams Drops Bomb

That’s when Williams made his bombshell admission.

“It was sort of like on-again, off-again with Maureen and I throughout the years,” Williams confessed. “There was always a little dance being played that was broken up by hiatus,”

Later in the episode, Williams explained that he tried to hide his feelings for McCormick so that he could remain professional on set.

“When she was pretending to have be affectionate with other guys and going out on dates and stuff, I liked to just stay out of the way and let her do her job and focus on and concentrate until, you know, until an episode that called for us to be sitting next to one another,” he recounted.

Knight asked Williams if he made a point of being on set whenever McCormick had to film a romantic scene with another actor.

“At all times,” Williams responded. “Always … Just to have a presence.”

Williams’ Previous Comments – McCormick Weighs In

Williams had previously confessed to dating McCormick in a 2013 interview with Oprah Winfrey. In fact, he revealed that he was actually McCormick’s first kiss.

“That was in Hawaii while we were filming those episodes,” he remembered at the time. “We snuck away, it was a full moon, and walked along the sand. Well, I knew where that was headed. Of course, I set it up.”

McCormick, 68, also opened up about her relationship with Williams in her memoir Here’s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice.

“We couldn’t hold back any longer,” she wrote. “It was our first kiss, and it was long, passionate and deep. It was wonderful, too, though as we continued to kiss and press against each other so closely that we could feel each other’s body heat, a part of me — a tiny part, admittedly — said to myself, `Oh my God! I’m kissing my brother. What am I doing?'”

Millions of Brady Bunch fans spent years hoping that there would be a romance between Williams and McCormick. While it may not have lasted, it’s nice to know that they really did have a love connection!
