Barbra Streisand has been forced to pull out of attending the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, despite being one of this year’s most celebrated honorees.
Not Able to Travel

The 84‑year‑old legend is an Oscar‑winning actress, chart‑topping singer, and acclaimed director. Streisand was due to receive an honorary Palme d’Or. She confirmed on May 17 that she will not be able to travel to France.
In a statement shared with the festival, Streisand said she had no choice. Streisand must follow medical advice as she continues to recover from a knee injury.
She said, “On the advice of my doctors, as I continue recovering from a knee injury, I am sadly unable to attend the Festival de Cannes this year.”
“But I am deeply honored to receive the Honorary Palme d’Or and had so been looking forward to celebrating the remarkable films of the 79th edition.”
Regret on Canceling
Streisand admitted she was disappointed. She is missing the opportunity to reconnect with peers and return to a country she has long adored.
She continued, “I was also very much looking forward to spending time with colleagues whom I so admire — and, of course, returning to France, a place I have always loved.”
“While I regret that I can’t be there in person, I want to extend my warmest congratulations to all of the filmmakers from around the world whose extraordinary talent and creative vision are being celebrated this year. My heartfelt thanks to the Festival, and to everyone who continues to support and champion the art of cinema.”
Festival organizers responded with their “warmest wishes for a prompt recovery.” They confirmed that the tribute to Streisand will still go ahead during the closing ceremony on May 23.
Celebrating Her Legacy

The honor recognizes her decades‑long impact on film and music, from Funny Girl to her trailblazing work behind the camera.
While Streisand won’t be walking the red carpet, Cannes will still celebrate her legacy. The star herself must watch the moment from afar.
