The former Friends star Jennifer Aniston has just made a move that insiders are saying is a “shot” at her fellow Hollywood A-lister Angelina Jolie. This comes twenty years after Jolie “stole” Aniston’s husband Brad Pitt from her.
Aniston’s Casting Move On The Morning Show
Aniston, 56, is currently both producing and starring in the hit Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. For this season, Aniston has brought in the Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard to play a media executive.
Last month, Cotillard joined Aniston on the red carpet for the season four premiere of The Morning Show. There, Cotillard gushed over Aniston, calling her a “beautiful soul” who is incredibly “inspiring.”
Aniston responded by revealing that she met Cotillard at an awards show 18 years ago. She also had words of praise for the French actress, describing Cotillard as being a “walking beam of sunshine and love and beauty and talent.”
Jolie’s History With Cotillard
Now, insiders are claiming that Aniston casting Cotillard on her show was a clear “shot” at Jolie. Indeed, Cotillard is believed to be the only woman who has made Jolie suffer “poisonous” jealousy. This reportedly happened back in 2016, when Cotillard filmed the movie Allied with Pitt. At the time, Jolie and Pitt were still married.
Jolie infamously met Pitt while they filmed the 2005 movie Mr & Mrs. Smith. Pitt was still married to Aniston at the time. It seems that when Pitt filmed Allied with Cotillard, Jolie was afraid of history repeating itself, only with her being the woman who loses her man this time.
A Hollywood source who personally witnessed the destruction of the Pitt and Jolie marriage in 2016 claimed that Pitt “would rave about Marion’s French elegance and style” to Jolie.
“Marion is probably the woman Angelina hates most in the world. It’s the only time that she has ever shown any signs of jealousy,” the insider told Daily Mail. “It was poisonous.”
“One problem was that Angelina was fully aware that their own romance had sparked while filming Mr & Mrs Smith, so there was a real fear of history repeating itself,” the source continued. “Quite a few people thought that Marion had bewitched Brad in the film.”
Jolie And Pitt’s Messy Divorce
Jolie ultimately filed for divorce from Pitt in September 0f 2016 after a fight on a private plane. At the time, another insider told reporters that “Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after learning he was cheating on her with his sexy co-star.”
“She hired a private eye because she felt that he was fooling around with her on the set, and it turns out, he was,” this source alleged.
Cotillard and her longtime partner Guillaume Canet immediately spoke out to deny that there was any truth to this story. According to them, Cotillard had nothing to do with Pitt and Jolie’s split.
A bitter divorce battle ensued between Pitt and Jolie that lasted eight long years. It wasn’t until December of 2024 that their divorce was finalized.
Though it’s been nearly a decade, Jolie has apparently not dropped her grudge against Cotillard. That’s why she’s likely seething that Aniston not only cast Cotillard on her hit show, but also publicly praised the French actress in the most glowing way possible.
In the end, it’s clear that there’s no love lost between Aniston, Jolie, and Pitt these days. We can only imagine how Cotillard feels being dragged into this messy situation once again. Yikes!
