It’s been a decade since Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from her fellow Hollywood A-lister Brad Pitt in 2016.
A bitter battle followed that stretched out for eight long years. Indeed, their divorce was not finalized until December of 2024. To this day, Jolie and Pitt are still battling each other in court over their French vineyard, Château Miraval.
On Monday, Jolie scored what is being described as “an important victory” over Pitt as their nasty court battle continues.
Jolie Scores ‘Important’ Win
Los Angeles County Superior Court judge Cindy Pánuco has ruled that Jolie, 50, should not have to surrender 22 emails discussing the case to Pitt, 62, and his team. A judge had ordered Jolie to do this in December of 2025.
The appellate court overturned this decision. They argued that since legal game plans were mentioned in the batch of emails, they should be off-limits to Pitt’s legal team.
Jolie’s lawyer Paul Murphy told Daily Mail that this is “an important victory” for Jolie.
“The decision shows that Mr. Pitt was completely out of bounds when he sought access to obviously privileged documents,” Murphy said. “He initially demanded 126 privileged documents, but then backtracked to 22, and now Mr. Pitt is getting nothing, zero.”
Murphy went on to say that the legal requests were indicative of “Pitt’s pattern of demanding control over anything Angelina. Including control over her communications with her own attorneys.”
“We are extremely gratified that both the Court of Appeal and the trial court ultimately put a stop to it.” Murphy concluded.
A source close to Pitt has since fired back. This insider told TMZ that all Jolie has achieved is “a potential temporary decision that allows them to keep information about her real intentions out of court.”
Pitt And Jolie’s History
Pitt and Jolie met on the set of the 2005 movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith. At the time, Pitt was still married to the former Friends star Jennifer Aniston. They soon split and he immediately began dating Jolie.
Pitt and Jolie went on to marry in 2014 in a ceremony at their winery in rural France. Jolie then filed for divorce just over two years later in 2016. She filed for divorce days after an alleged altercation on a private jet flight. There, Jolie alleges that Pitt was abusive to her and their six children. It is believed that most if not all of the children are estranged from Pitt to this day.
A source close to the case recently admitted to Radar Online that the lawsuit over the winery is “deeply personal.”
“While the dispute is rooted in intricate legal and financial arguments, those involved recognize that there is a deeply personal dimension running alongside it,” the insider said. “This goes beyond a straightforward commercial disagreement. With the history between the two continuing to shape how the situation is unfolding.”
Another source added, “There is a widespread feeling among those close to the situation that this ongoing dispute continues to loom heavily over their lives. Even years after the relationship itself came to an end, with its impact still being felt across both their personal and family spheres.”
This is clearly an extremely messy situation for everyone involved. We can only hope that Jolie and Pitt can eventually come to some kind of resolution so that they can each move on with their lives.
