It’s been a decade since Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from her fellow Hollywood A-lister Brad Pitt in 2016.

A bitter battle followed that stretched out for eight long years. Indeed, their divorce was not finalized until December of 2024. To this day, Jolie and Pitt are still battling each other in court over their French vineyard, Château Miraval.

Now, Jolie is speaking out to claim that she has not dated at all in the decade since she split from Pitt.

Jolie Sounds Off On Dating

Jolie, 51, is currently promoting her new movie Couture, which hit theaters last week. In the film, Jolie plays Maxine Walker, a filmmaker who encounters a romantic partner in Paris around the time that she is diagnosed with breast cancer.

The role is a personal one for Jolie, as she lost her own mother Marcheline Bertrand in 2007 to both ovarian and breast cancer. Indeed, playing this part has caused Jolie to reassess her approach to her personal life.

“I haven’t dated or been with anyone since I divorced a decade ago, right?” Jolie told Yahoo Entertainment, referring to her 2016 split from Pitt, 62. “So I kind of get in my head that that aspect of me is not centered in my life if I’m focusing on my children and my family.”

Jolie went on to say that in order to play Maxine, she had to reframe her thinking on the matter.

“So it took me a second to say, ‘Look, she can also love her daughter and be dedicated to her daughter and also need this as a woman and receive this as a woman,'” she continued. “And that in fact, it might be very healing for her.”

“Life has broken me a little,” Jolie admitted. “I have to live again. Be free again.”

Jolie Gushes Over Her Daughters

Jolie then said that her three daughters, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and Vivienne, 17, have encouraged her to move forward with her life. They are three of the six children that she shares with Pitt.

“They speak to me as young women, and I see what I want for them,” she told Yahoo Entertainment. “I see what I don’t want them to lose and what I want them to hold on to. And in a way, this is reminding me of what I might have lost myself.”

Jolie added that her daughters are “bringing me back to my old self.”

“I think they kind of want me now to not just be ‘Mom,’” she explained. “There’s a different room for me to be that woman again, that’s not just a mom.”

As for her future plans, Jolie said, “I’m thinking I have to live again. Be free again.”

Meanwhile, though Jolie claims to have not dated for a decade, Pitt has already moved on. The Oscar-winning actor has been dating the jewelry designer Ines de Ramon, 33, since late 2022. Sources told Daily Mail last month that though Pitt is “very happy” and “enjoys the peace and support of his easygoing girlfriend,” they doubt that he will be marrying her in the wake of his traumatic divorce.

“He has a great partner who he appreciates but there is no rush in that direction,” one Pitt insider said.

Jolie And Pitt’s History

Pitt and Jolie met on the set of the 2005 movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith. At the time, Pitt was still married to the former Friends star Jennifer Aniston. They soon split and he immediately began dating Jolie.

Pitt and Jolie went on to marry in 2014 in a ceremony at their winery in rural France. Jolie then filed for divorce just over two years later in 2016. She filed for divorce days after an alleged altercation on a private jet flight. There, Jolie alleges that Pitt was abusive to her and their six children. It is believed that most if not all of the children are estranged from Pitt to this day.

A decade after their split, Jolie and Pitt are still fighting it out in court over their French winery Château Miraval

Last week, Pitt scored a huge win in this legal battle when a California Superior Court granted Pitt’s motion to compel depositions from members of the Stoli Group. This came after Pitt’s lawyers argued that the spirits-and-wine giant had direct knowledge of Jolie’s 2021 sale of Château Miraval to Tenute del Mondo, the Stoli Group’s wine division.

Jolie’s legal team fired back by telling People Magazine that the rulings “have made no impact on the merits of the case, and certainly has no impact on Ms. Jolie’s case.”

“At this point, Ms. Jolie is just looking forward to defeating the case at trial next year so that their family can finally focus their energies on healing and moving on,” Jolie’s attorneys added.

This has clearly been one of the messiest celebrity divorces of all time. Given how many messy celebrity splits there have been over the years, that’s saying a lot!

In the end, perhaps it would be better for everyone involved if Jolie finally moved on and started dating again. Only time will tell if she actually does that.
