The American Pickers star Mike Wolfe has found himself getting major backlash this week as shoppers are accusing him of selling antiques at his Antique Archaeology stores at three times the normal cost.

Iowa Shoppers Sound Off On Antique Archaeology

Wolfe, 60, owns Antique Archaeology, which has two locations. One is in Le Claire, Iowa, and the other is in Nashville, Tennessee. Customers at the Iowa location, however, are sounding off this week as they claim that his antiques there are “overpriced.”

“Place is way overrated and overpriced… Highly recommended to stay away from this place,” one shopper complained. Another added, “Overpriced items they found at estate sales that they dust off and then charge 3x the price. And that’s most stores…”

“It is interesting the price picked is way different than their sale price,” a third person commented. “Of course they need to make a profit but jeepers. Ended up buying some stuff but wished I could have bought more.”

When The Sun investigated, they found that items at Wolfe’s store are indeed quite costly.

“As for overpriced items, a Royal Crown Scale costs a whopping $4,500 after Mike bought the antique for $3,200,” the publication reported. “A Drink Uptown sign hung on the wall of the store is $1,800. A dog statue could run a customer $900. A Whippet Motor Oil Can is $595. Similar cans being sold online go for just $175.”

Nashville Shoppers Weigh In

Unfortunately for Wolfe, similar reviews can be found online for the Nashville location of Antique Archaeology.

“Huge disappointment. Made a special trip to go there. Total waste of time,” one disgruntled customer commented. “Very few items for sale and what were there was overpriced. Don’t waste your time…”

“Waste of time, we love the show and were excited to get to go but it was a total waste of time!” a second shopper wrote. “They have shot glasses, t-shirts, and can coozies and shop towels with their name on it but not much else. Very few antiques and the ones they have are super expensive! $1,500 for a small quaker sign.”

“The Antique Archaeology store left me unimpressed. A lot of mass-produced souvenir items for sale with a few antiques on display,” yet another Nashville customer stated. A fourth wrote, “Would have been very disappointed if I came up just for this. Was expecting an antique store, not an American Pickers gift shop.”

Indeed, shoppers at the Antique Archaeology store in Nashville can buy an antique coin horse ride for $3,500 and a stock market machine cabinet for $3,000.

American Pickers Ratings Down

As if all of that wasn’t bad enough for Wolfe, American Pickers struggled in the ratings during its most recent 26th season. The premiere episode on October 9 only managed to garner a measly 565,000 viewers. The season’s low was 442,000 viewers for the October 30 episode. The show hit a high of 760,000 viewers on December 18, but it decreased to just 705,000 viewers on January 15.

Luckily for Wolfe, American Pickers has at least two more seasons left on its contract. Filming for the next season began last month. However, you likely won’t be hearing much about the backlash for Wolfe’s overpriced antiques on it!
