Hollywood star Alec Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter trial over the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his movie Rust is continuing this week. On Thursday, it was revealed that Baldwin asked his wife Hilaria to come visit him for a “good time” in Santa Fe just hours after the shooting in October of 2021.

Baldwin Called Wife Hours After Shooting

The judge presiding over Baldwin’s trial ruled on Thursday that jurors will hear that he asked his wife and kids to visit him in Santa Fe for a “good time” hours after Hutchins and Rust director Joel Souza were shot.

Though Baldwin, 66, did not yet know that Hutchins was dead, he knew that she and Souza had been rushed to the hospital with bullet wounds when he called his wife from the sheriff’s office.

“He’s speaking to his wife, and he has her on FaceTime so we can actually hear her. We can hear her responses. And then he’s speaking to another person,” prosecutor Kari Morrissey told the judge in a hearing that was held outside of the earshots of jurors.

“And he is explaining that he wants that person to try to convince his wife to still come to New Mexico because they can’t get their money back for the plane tickets, and they’d like to go ahead and have a good time,” she continued.

Judge Rules In Prosecutors’ Favor

Hilaria and their seven children had already been planning to visit the actor one day after the Rust shooting. Instead of calling off their trip due to the seriousness of what happened, however, Baldwin wanted them to come anyway.

Morrissey argued that jurors should hear what Baldwin told his wife. Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer ruled in Morrissey’s favor. They will also be able to hear what Baldwin told Det. Alexandria Hancock hours after the shooting.

“You live a very, very difficult but ultimately very narrow life,” he told the detective.

Baldwin Trial Derails

Later on Thursday, the trial derailed when Judge Sommer called out the members of the media in attendance. She chided them for not cleaning up their trash at Santa Fe’s 1st Judicial District Court of New Mexico.

“One more cup and everybody is not allowed to bring any liquids of any kind whatsoever,” the judge said. “My staff and our county people are not going to be picking up trash that you all could pick up. Okay? And that also means downstairs in the jury assembly room.”

“So one more cup, one more water — let’s just have some manners on picking up after ourselves, okay?” she later added. “Sorry I had to bring that up right now.”

Baldwin pled not guilty to a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter in the October of 2021 death of Hutchins, 42. If convicted, he is facing up to 18 months in prison.
