Prince Harry Officially Cuts Ties With U.K. – Lists U.S. As Primary Residence For First Time

Prince Harry has officially cut ties with the United Kingdom, as he has listed the United States as his primary residence for the first time.

Harry Changes His Residence To The U.S.

Daily Mail reported that when Harry stepped down as a senior royal back in 2020, he proudly said that, “The U.K. is my home and a place that I love. That will never change.”

Just four years later, however, Harry has completely changed his tune. Filings published by Companies House on Thursday for “Prince Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex” records show that his “New Country/State Usually Resident” is the U.S., whereas it was previously the U.K.

NBC News reported that while the change was filed this week, it was actually made on June 29 of last year, the very same day that it was reported that Harry and Meghan had officially left Frogmore Cottage.

Pressure For Harry’s Visa Records To Be Released

This comes amidst pressure for President Joe Biden’s administration to release Harry’s visa records after the royal admitted to experimenting with cocaine, cannabis, and psychedelic mushrooms, all of which would have to have been disclosed on application forms filed before he moved to the U.S. in 2020, according to The New York Post. Making false claims on these forms is grounds for deportation, which is why the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation thinks the records need to be made public.

Last month, Jane Hartley, the U.S. ambassador to London, proudly declared that Harry would not be deported while Biden is in office.

“It’s not gonna happen in the Biden administration,” she told Sky News.

This didn’t sit well with The Heritage Foundation, which accused Hartley of protecting Harry in official court filings.

“Hartley spoke directly not only to the Duke of Sussex’s current immigration status, but HRH’s [Harry’s] future immigration status as well,” the filing read.

Nile Gardiner, Director of The Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom, said that Hartley’s “arrogant remarks on Prince Harry are an extraordinary intervention by a senior US diplomat on an ongoing federal court case.”

“The Biden Administration has gone to great lengths to protect Prince Harry, and has even ruled out the possible deportation of the Duke of Sussex if he lied on his US immigration application and violated US immigration law,” Gardiner continued.

Can Harry Remain A Counsellor Of State?

Harry changing his primary residency to the U.S. also raises questions as to whether he can remain as a Counsellor of State, one of seven members of the Royal Family who can deputize for the Monarch if he is abroad or unwell. British law requires Counsellors of State to have a home in the U.K., but Harry and his wife Meghan Markle currently have none there.

“We are really in uncharted waters here: the Prince Harry situation is not something the law easily allows for,” said Dr Craig Prescott, an expert on constitutional law.

“The idea of the second son of the King choosing a life away from royal duties is not something the law has thought about, and I can imagine that Buckingham Palace would be concerned by that,” he continued. “The King had the chance to remove him with the counsellor-of-state legislation last year, but chose not to.”

Given the fact that Harry has turned on his own family, it should come as no surprise that he’s now turned on his own country. Only time will tell if Harry is permitted to keep the U.S. as his residency in the years to come.
