Three years after she served two months in prison for her role in the infamous college admissions scandal, Lori Loughlin is speaking out to recall how she responded when she learned that her former “Full House” costar Bob Saget had died suddenly in January of 2022.

Loughlin Remembers Saget’s Death

While appearing on the “How Rude, Tanneritos!” podcast, which is hosted by her “Full House” co-stars Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber, Loughlin talked about the moment she was told that Saget had died in January of 2022.

“I was playing golf. It was a Sunday, and I was with [husband Mossimo Giannulli] and we just came off the golf course and I had my phone in my bag,” remembered Loughlin, 59. “I took my phone out of my bag, and I had probably 25 missed phone calls. As I’m looking at my phone, I have 25 missed phone calls from John [Stamos]. I have 15 missed calls from Dave [Coulier].”

“I think I had a few missed phone calls from Candace [Cameron-Bure],” she continued. “And as I’m looking at my phone and I’m thinking, ‘Oh, that’s not good,’ all these missed phone calls, I couldn’t imagine what was going on, my phone rang in my hand and it was Jodie.”

That’s when Loughlin was given the horrible news that Saget had been found dead in a Florida hotel room at the age of 65. It was later revealed that he had died of accidental head trauma, with his family saying that he “accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep,” according to Fox News.

“I just fell to my knees. And I just remember [Mossimo] trying to pick me up and get me out to the car to the parking lot,” Loughlin recalled. “It was just…I still can’t believe it. I still can’t believe it. It’s still is hard to believe.”

‘It’s Such A Loss’

When Sweetin said that the week after Saget died was “surreal,” Loughlin said “it still is” even two years later.

“It’s such a loss. You somehow still think, ‘Oh, maybe he’ll come back.’ It’s just hard to believe,” she said.

“But he was great, and what a good man. Three beautiful daughters,” Loughlin added. “His first wife Sherri is just a lovely person, and Kelly [Rizzo] is just amazing. And I’m glad, even though their time was short, he found Kelly. He waited a long time on Kelly to have that kind of love. I’m glad he had it for a little while.”

Loughlin concluded by revealing that she visits Saget’s grave in Los Angeles often.

“My route for Project Angel Food when I make my deliveries is right near the cemetery. So, quite often what I do is I’ll do the deliveries and then I’ll stop and get flowers and I’ll go up and I’ll put them on the grave,” she explained.

“There’s something oddly comforting,” she stated. “His family is there, so he’s close by his mom and his dad and his sister. But that he’s so close to Warner Bros. where we shot the show is kind of oddly comforting.”

Saget Stood By Loughlin

During Loughlin’s college admissions scandal, which saw her be accused of paying $500,000 in bribe money to have her two daughters admitted to the University of Southern California as members of the crew team even though neither of them had ever rowed before, Saget was one of the few celebrities to stand by her publicly.

“I love her,” he said of Loughlin back in 2019, according to People Magazine. He later added, “There’s 30 years of love there. More than that. So that’s all I got. I love her very much. And that’s it.”

Saget further doubled down on his loyalty to Loughlin in an interview with Fox News in October of 2019.

“I love the people I love, and people go through life, and stuff happens,” Saget said at the time. “For a while, I was saying, ‘No comment,’ and now there’s just no point in talking about it because I’ve answered it. What I would say is, I love the people I love, and I have empathy for people that are in my life for 35 years. I don’t cut people out.”

This clearly meant the world to Loughlin, so it comes as no surprise that Saget’s death hit her so hard. Whether you were on Loughlin’s side during the college admissions scandal or not, her friendship with Saget really is something beautiful to witness, as it’s a rarity in the crazy world of Hollywood.
