Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Claim They Were Involved In ‘Terrifying’ Car Chase With Paparazzi In NYC

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are claiming that they were involved in a “near catastrophic” car chase in New York City on Tuesday night that allegedly saw them be chased by paparazzi for two hours.

Daily Mail reported that Meghan and Harry had just left an event with her mother Doria Ragland when the alleged chase took place.

“Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi,” the couple’s spokesperson said in a statement. “This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers.”

“While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety,” the spokesperson added. “Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all in involved.”

NYPD Investigating

Meghan and Harry were in New York City with Doria to attend the Ms Foundation for Women’s 50th anniversary gala event. There, Meghan received the Ms Foundation’s Women of Vision Award for her “global advocacy to empower and advocate on behalf of women and girls.”

The NYPD addressed the alleged chase as well, saying, “On Tuesday evening, May 16, the NYPD assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”

“There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging,” the NYPD continued. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries or arrests in regard.”

A law enforcement source has since told Fox News that the NYPD is looking through traffic camera footage and security footage to “piece together what transpired.”

NYC Mayor Speaks Out

New York City Mayor Eric Adams also addressed the alleged chase, saying, “Two of our officers could’ve been injured. You shouldn’t be speeding anywhere, but this is a densely populated city.”

However, Adams was quick to question whether the chase really lasted for two hours, as the former royals claimed.

“I would find it hard to believe that there was a two-hour high-speed chase… but we will find out the exact duration of it, but if it’s 10 minutes, a 10-minute chase is extremely dangerous in New York City,” he continued. “Any type of high-speed chase that involves something of that nature is inappropriate.”

“Police do it under limited circumstances when they’re going after violent people, but to do it because you want to get the shot can turn out to be a place where people can be harmed in a real way,” Adams concluded.

It should be noted that Harry’s mother Princess Diana was being chased through Paris, France by paparazzi when she was killed in a car crash back in 1997. This has understandably left Harry with a less than favorable view of the paparazzi and the media as a whole.

Since stepping down as senior royals back in 2020, Meghan and Harry have claimed to want privacy while simultaneously seemingly trying to get as much attention for themselves as possible. It will certainly be interesting to see if an investigation by the NYPD corroborates their version of events, or if they will be caught in yet another lie.
