Liberal Tom Hanks Launches Surprising Attack On Cancel Culture – ‘We’re All Grown-Ups Here’

Tom Hanks is a Hollywood A-list star who has long been known as a member of the liberal elite, counting even the former President Barack Obama as a close personal friend. That’s why it came as a shock when Hanks just launched an attack on cancel culture, something leftists have had a field day with in recent years.

‘Let Me Decide What I Am Offended By’

While Hanks, 66, was promoting his upcoming novel “The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece,” he said that he is “against” the idea of reading a book that has been deemed offensive by the modern cancel culture mob.

“I’m of the opinion that we’re all grown-ups here,” Hanks told The BBC. “Let’s have faith in our own sensibilities as opposed to having somebody decide what we may or may not be offended by,”

“Let me decide what I am offended by and what I’m not offended by,” he continued. “I would be against reading any book from any era that says ‘abridged due to modern sensitivities.'”

This comes after the iconic “James Bond” novels written by Ian Fleming last century were rewritten to remove some racial references that are seen as offensive today. The Blaze reported that other authors like Roald Dahl, Agatha Christie, and R.L. Stine have had their works modified in this way as well.

Hanks Admits To Bad Behavior On Film Sets

Hanks’ upcoming novel is about the making of a Hollywood superhero movie, and he admits that he’s misbehaved on movie sets himself in the past.

“I have pulled every single one of those moments of behavior myself on a set,” Hanks confessed. “Not everybody is at their best every single day on a motion picture set.”

“I’ve had tough days trying to be a professional when my life has been falling apart in more ways than one and the requirement for me that day is to be funny, charming and loving – and it’s the last way I feel,” he added.

‘Cardinal Sin’ On A Movie Set

Hanks went on to talk about the worst thing someone can do on a movie set, adding that many A-list stars break this rule.

“What cannot occur on a motion picture is that someone cannot monkey around with the timing or the length of the shoot or the budget,” he explained. “That is a cardinal sin in the motion picture business.”

“You will be amazed at how many people know that they can get away with it, and are told they can get away with it, because they are carrying the movie on their shoulders,” the Forrest Gump star continued.

Hanks’ book has received mixed reviews, with the The Sunday Times saying that he “mansplains movie-making” and that the “writing is clunky throughout.”

Hanks, however, isn’t letting these negative reviews get to him, as he says that decades of his “day job as a movie star” has given him the ability to “handle” any criticism. He added that his film career has made him “stronger when it comes down to really being torn apart.”

While we don’t agree with Hanks on much of his politics, we’re glad that even he can see that cancel culture has gone too far. Here’s hoping that more leftwing celebrities start speaking out against it as he did!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
