Blake Shelton Says Emotional Goodbye To ‘The Voice’ – ‘Not A Dry Eye In The House’

The country music star Blake Shelton paid an emotional goodbye to “The Voice” on Tuesday night after serving as a coach on the show for 23 seasons, with host Carson Daly saying that there was “not a dry eye in the house.”

Shelton Leaves ‘The Voice’

Today reported that an emotional tribute video was played during the finale of “The Voice” in which Shelton’s former coaches and winners got to say goodbye to him. Shelton’s wife Gwen Stefani, who met him when she signed on to be a coach on the show in 2014, appeared in the video as well to talk about how she met her “soulmate.”

“When I first came on the show, our lives were having this parallel destruction happening and then next thing you know Blake and I start becoming besties and falling in love,” Stefani said. “It’s hard for me to even talk about it without getting super emotional.”

Shelton said afterwards that “he loved seeing” this video, adding that he and Stefani talk about how they met “at least once a week.”

“We stop and go, ‘Can you believe that happened? We met each other on the show and the circumstances?'” he continued. “And it’s just been the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life.”

Other celebrities who stepped up to honor Shelton included John Legend, Usher, Camila Cabello, Jennifer Hudson, Nick Jonas, Pharrell Williams and Dolly Parton.

Team Blake Winners Honor Shelton

Later in the show, all the winners from Team Blake over the years took the stage to perform “Good Riddance” by Green Day, much to Shelton’s surprise.

“I don’t even know what to say. But these two especially coming out here, this is Season One, Xenia and Dia (Frampton), coming out here,” Shelton said afterwards. “It’s like, whoa, it all came back… And this is, what the heck is going on?!”

Unfortunately for Shelton, he was not able to take home the win on his last go-round as coach, as Gina Miles from Team Niall was declared the winner of season 23. Team Blake singer Grace West took second place, followed by D. Smooth in third, Sorelle in fourth and Team Blake singer Noivas in fifth place.

Shelton’s Final Dig At Adam Levine

Before leaving the show, Shelton managed to get one last playful dig in at the Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine, who was one of his fellow original coaches when “The Voice” premiered back in 2011.

“I’m glad that Adam is singing and not speaking, because every time he speaks, he says really stupid stuff,” Shelton told E! News before the show.

“When he was a coach on the show, I’ll still say he was hands down the worst coach of anything that I’ve ever seen in my life,” he added.

Levine left “The Voice” back in 2019 after sixteen seasons with the show, but he returned last night for Shelton’s final episode to perform with Maroon 5.

As for how Shelton feels about his own exit, he said, “It’s kind of a blur to me. On the way over here today, I was just thinking about this whole chapter of my life.”

Shelton’s Replacement

Shelton will be replaced by Reba McEntire in season 24 of “The Voice” this fall.

“I’m excited about Reba coming on board,” Shelton previously said. “It’s kind of meant to be I think. From the versions of the story that I’ve heard, she was the original coach that they wanted here on ‘The Voice’ to be the country representation. So, now that I’ve had my run, for her to finally get the job that she was meant to have to begin with, it will be fun.”

McEntire is also excited to be taking a red chair on the show for the first time.

“I’m not really worried about the competition,” she said. “I’ll give them some tips every once and a while that will help them, but I’ll be easy on them.”

Shelton has been a staple on “The Voice” ever since it premiered twelve years ago, so it’s hard to manage the show without him. That being said, he’s leaving the show to spend more time with his family, so we can’t argue with that.

We wish Shelton the best of luck in his future endeavors, and we already can’t wait for “The Voice” to come back next season!

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
