Flashback: William Shatner, 92, Filming New Reality Show After Saying He ‘Doesn’t Have Long To Live’

Last month, we reported that the Hollywood legend William Shatner of “Star Trek” fame had said that he “doesn’t have long left to live” at 92 years of age. Now, it’s been announced that Shatner has signed on to star on a new reality show that will be filmed all the way across the world in Australia.

Shatner’s New Reality Show

Daily Mail reported that Shatner will be starring in the new reality show “Stars On Mars,” in which celebrities will get to see what it’s like to be an astronaut on Mars. Shatner will be bringing his Captain James T. Kirk energy to the show, as he will be tasking the celebrities with various space-themed challenges from mission control as they try to become the last “celebronaut” standing.

While the cast has yet to be released, it’s been reported that the former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Lisa Rinna is one of the contestants.

“The moment I heard the pitch for ‘Stars on Mars,’ I knew a show this bold, this big and this outlandish simply belonged on Fox,” Allison Wallach, head of Fox’s unscripted programming, told Variety.

“Watching celebrities take giant leaps out of their comfort zone and step into the unexpected will no doubt be truly transformational and comical,” she added. “Throughout, we will learn a lot about these stars, and when you factor in William Shatner leading the charge from Mission Control, we have the makings of a show that’s ready for blast off.”

Shatner Speaks Out

Shatner issued a brief humorous line of his own, saying, “Thanks to lower gravity on Mars, you’ll weigh 62% less. Bad news: the air is unbreathable, so if you’re from L.A., it’ll remind you of home.”

The full synopsis of the show reads:

“During their stay, they will be faced with authentic conditions that simulate life on Mars, and they must use their brains and brawn – or maybe just their stellar social skills – to outlast the competition and claim the title of brightest star in the galaxy.

The celebrities will compete in missions and will vote to eliminate one of their crewmates each week, sending them back to Earth. Cue the intergalactic alliances and rivalries. ‘Stars on Mars’will send these famous rookie space travelers where no one has gone before and reveal who has what it takes to survive life on ‘Mars.’”

Shatner ‘Doesn’t Have Long To Live’

Shatner has not let his age slow him down in recent years. Back in 2021, at the age of 90, Shatner became the oldest person alive to go into space when he boarded Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin New Shepard rocket ship. Fears grew for him last month, however, when he lamented that he has “‘little time” left after he was asked why he was releasing a documentary about his life.

“I’ve turned down a lot of offers to do documentaries before. But I don’t have long to live,” Shatner told Variety. “Whether I keel over as I’m speaking to you or 10 years from now, my time is limited, so that’s very much a factor. I’ve got grandchildren. This documentary is a way of reaching out after I die.”

Shatner is father to three daughters and he has five grandchildren.

We applaud Shatner for continuing to show the world that age really is just a number. He may think that he doesn’t have long to live, but he’s certainly making the most of that time, and his new project only proves that even more!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
