Jorge Masvidal is expanding his portfolio.
Fresh off promoting his own boxing event this past weekend, Masvidal will step back into the Octagon Saturday night at UFC 287. “Gamebred” will meet Gilbert Burns in the co-main event from Miami and the Miami-Dade Arena.
The card is headlined by Alex Pereira defending his middleweight title against former champion Israel Adesanya.
Masvidal, a native of South Beach, is coming off three consecutive losses, with two of them coming for the UFC welterweight title to Kamaru Usman.
Prior to that, though, he had picked up three wins in a row – all coming by finish. Masvidal stopped Nate Diaz, Ben Askren and Darren Till, and owns 35 career wins with 18 by finish.
Burns will be a tough out for Masvidal, as he is 21-5 with wins over Stephen Thompson, Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia among others. He scored a January submission vs. Neil Magny and is 8-2 over his last 10 fights.
Masvidal launched his 2021 Gamebred Fighting Championship. They have held four events now, with Anthony Pettis and Roy Jones Jr. in the headline of the most recent.
