A 2,000 acre ranch in Southern California that was once owned by the legendary Hollywood star John Wayne has gone on the market for $12 million.

Wayne’s Former Ranch Goes On The Market

Daily Mail reported that the property is known as “Rancho Pavoreal” and is located in the town of Sage, which is between San Diego and Palm Springs and is near the Temecula Valley Wine Country. The property is described as “very masculine, very Western” by the listing agent, and it includes over $2,000 acres, making it perfect for equestrian use or cattle ranching.

“Once In a lifetime opportunity,” the Coldwell Banker Homes listing states.

Wayne lived on the property for years while he made some of his most beloved Western films. Listing agent Tatiana Novick said that the home has “incredible views every season,” adding that whoever buys it will be able to enjoy the snow-capped Palomar Mountains during the winter and the green pastures and sun in the summer months.

Check out a video of the ranch from the last time it was on the market in the video below.

‘Only Ranch Of Its Kind’

The three bedroom house on the ranch is 3,000 square feet and was built in the 1950s, and images of the inside show a framed photo of Wayne alongside a long-range gun.  Novick said that the amenities that come with this property are “very rare” and that the previous owners used it as a dude ranch.

“This property is a one-of-a-kind offering with 2,000 acres,” Novick told Fox Business. “It is the only ranch of its kind for sale in California. There is nothing out there as big and with so many open spaces.”

“There is a lot of rich Native American history in the property,” she added. “It is tucked away for privacy and close to Temecula Wine Country. There is so much you can do with it. It is bigger than my town where I grew up in Latvia. Plus, America’s Sweetheart, John Wayne, owned it.”

While living on the ranch in the 1970s, Wayne would often invite guests there for horseback riding, shooting and other ranching activities.

‘Once-In-A-Lifetime Opportunity’

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get your hands on the former ranch of the iconic Western film star John Wayne,” said Novick. “As an action hero to many, John Wayne’s presence still lives on in Rancho Pavoreal’s very masculine and Western aesthetic.”

“Upon John Wayne’s passing, this property was transformed into a dude ranch, where visitors saw it as a ‘home away from home’ that rejuvenated their body and nourish their soul,” she continued. “A perfect multipurpose ranch, Rancho Pavoreal can be used for camps, hunting, horseback riding, cattle grazing, riflery, archery, hiking, equestrian use, or a motorcycle ranch — you name it, it has it.”

Wayne was one of the most popular movie stars in the world when he sadly passed away in 1979 at the age of 72 following a battle with stomach cancer. Though it’s been over 40 years since his death, Wayne remains one of the most legendary movie stars of all time, so getting the chance to live on a ranch that was previously owned by him would be an incredible experience.

We hope whoever is lucky enough to purchase the property makes Wayne proud with the way they use it!
