Cody Rhodes and John Cena shared a beautiful moment last night on RAW, and WNZ has the backstory behind it. Plus, will Ronda Rousey make it to WrestleMania 39?
Near his final months with AEW, Cody Rhodes became privy to a fan chat that went a little something like, “let’s go Cody … Cody sucks!”. As only one man truly understood his plight, so he reached out to John Cena at that time.
As per Cody, John told him to be “honest” and try and understand why the audience was reacting to him in this polarized way. Cena also advised Rhodes to “stick to his guns”.
Cody notes that John told him to look in a mirror, and if he felt as if he was doing the right thing then he shouldn’t stop. Cena has always been full of wise words.
Rhodes notes that he did just as Cena advised. As such, “sticking to his guns” has paid off.
After all, he’s on the cusp of main eventing WrestleMania 39, and dethroning The Tribal Chief. Rhodes has a major match against Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship.
Fast forward to last night’s RAW, during Cena’s segment with Austin Theory, and Cody was launched in the spotlight. John notes during the promo that, unlike Theory, Rhodes is ready for the WrestleMania stage.
Rhodes got an ovation from the live RAW crowd, following an embrace from John Cena. Cody took the time to tweet about the entire thing, as you can see above.
Speaking of WrestleMania 39, will Ronda Rousey make it to WWE’s flagship event? She is currently dealing with an injury.
Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer notes that while Rousey isn’t “100% healed” from her current injury, the WWE is still moving forward with a Women’s Tag Title match. Rhonda would be teaming up with Shayna Baszler.
During this week’s RAW, Trish Stratus confirmed she’s coming out of retirement to join current Women’s Tag Champs Lita and Becky Lynch for a WM 39 match. It’s going to be a 6-woman tag, facing Bayley, IYO SKY, and Dakota Kai.
Sounds like a plot twist is on the horizon for this program. Dave notes that there will be two bouts coming from this storyline.
One will be the six-woman tag match with Lynch, as well as WWE Hall of Famers Lita and Stratus. The other will be a tag title match where the championships are on the line.
Meltzer states it’s unclear what WM night the Women’s Tag title bout will take place. However, he believes it will likely happen on Night 2.
Dave also says he’s not sure if SKY and Dakota will win the championships back before WM 39 happens, or if Rousey and Baszler will face Lita and The Man. So much could change in the weeks ahead.
Meltzer notes that while Rousey may not be 100%, she’ll likely be recovered enough to participate in a tag bout. Only time will tell.
