Chris Stapleton Responds After Eagles Coach Cries During His Super Bowl National Anthem Performance

Country music superstar Chris Stapleton performed the national anthem during Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, and his performance was so powerful that it moved the Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni to tears. Though the moment quickly went viral, Stapleton surprisingly responded that he hasn’t seen his anthem performance yet and likely never will.

Chris Stapleton: ‘I Try Not To Watch Myself’

“I don’t know if I can watch it, man,” Stapleton told Entertainment Tonight. “I try not to watch myself back too much.”

Stapleton also said that he viewed his performance as a success.

“Man, it felt great. It really did,” Stapleton said. “The energy was good and the crowd was hyped up for the game, so that kind of gets you ready to go.”

Sirianni addressed his emotional moment in a press conference after the game.

“This is what you dream of, being in this moment,” he said, according to Fox News. “It’s just emotional because there’s a lot of work, not just by myself, but a lot of people. Starting with my wife and my kids, my brothers, my dad and just so many people…”

“It’s just emotional in that moment knowing where we were,” Sirianni added.

‘Something That I’ve Always Thought About’

Sirianni had previously opened up about how much he’d been looking forward to this moment.

“That’s something that I’ve always thought about — what it might be like to hear the national anthem at a Super Bowl,” he told the Buffalo News. “You get the goose bumps thinking about it. …You think about being in that moment of the Super Bowl, listening to the national anthem, how much that’s going to mean. It makes you think about all the hard work that you had to go through to get to the moment that you’re in right now.

“It will be a good feeling,” he continued. “I’m not going to let myself get wrapped up in that feeling, because right after that, we’re going to have a job to do. But I will let myself enjoy that moment for a second and enjoy that feeling, because there was a lot of hard work by a lot of people. Everyone is going to feel this way. There are a lot of people who helped me get to this spot that I’m in right now. It will be cool to listen to it and get to work.”

Unfortunately for Sirianni, the Eagles ultimately lost the game to the Kansas City Chief by a score of 38 to 35. Nevertheless, this was still a positive experience for him, and Stapleton’s national anthem performance is one that nobody will ever forget.

Chris Stapleton Going On Tour

This isn’t the first time the Grammy award winning country singer has brought a house down.

His surprise duet with pop sensation Justin Timberlake at the 2015 CMA Awards cemented his arrival on the music scene. Ever humble, Stapleton would later call the performance “life-changing”.

More recently, Stapleton performed his 2020 Grammy-winning hit “You Should Probably Leave” on The Tonight Show. Even those who don’t like country music can appreciate this one.

If you are a long-time fan of Stapleton’s – or just became a new one – be sure to check him out when he goes on tour later this year!

The New York Post reported that Stapleton will be performing all over North America from April 26 through Aug. 25 with special guests that include Allen Stone, Charley Crockett, Marcus King, Margo Price, Marty Stuart, Nikki Lane and The War and Treaty on select dates.

Here’s hoping that Chris Stapleton considers playing the national anthem at a few of these shows!
