Steve Austin WrestleMania 39 Match, Steiners – WWE Deal

Rumors have been buzzing about The Rock not attending WrestleMania 39. However, it sounds like the WWE has a Plan SCSA. According to a report, the WWE has pitched a ‘huge opponent’ and match for Steve Austin at the flagship event.

Steve Austin WrestleMania 39 Match

As per Fightful Select, an internal WrestleMania 39 pitch was made for “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and that was to face Roman Reigns. The report reveals that “at the very least” Austin was approached with the possibility of this match.

The report also indicates that an “enormous” amount of money was presented for the bout. During this past summer, Fightful released a report stating the WWE approached Austin with a deal.

However, as per the summer report, this “deal” was not financially appealing. Fightful approached some sources in the WWE who also note that no one has heard back on whether or not the recent deal has been accepted.

Much to the delight of many fans, Austin made an incredible in-ring return during WM 38. In fact, he closed the show on Night One with Kevin Owens.

With that said, reports reveal that up until the day of the event, there were worries that Stone Cold would change his decision. Plus, sources reveal that it wasn’t confirmed he’d do Night Two interactions with Vince, until the Sunday of the event.

Another ‘Huge Opponent’ For Steve Austin at WrestleMania 39?

Meanwhile, during a recent Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reveals another opponent pitched to Austin, altogether. He notes it was Brock Lesnar who was presented to Steve by the WWE as a WM 39 match.

Dave also states while Lesnar was pitched, it was all done in secret. Plus, the match would not happen now as the WWE is leading up to a Brock versus Bobby Lashley bout.

WNZ reported in December that some WM 39 matches were slated. Night one would see Cody Rhodes/Drew McIntyre versus Seth Rollins.

Meanwhile, Night two could be Cody Rhodes/TBD versus Roman Reigns. Only time will tell how everything will unfold.

Over to some fun news, fans of The Steiners will be happy to learn that their relationships with the WWE continue to move forward. The brothers have been signed to a Legends contract.

Steiners – WWE Deal

The Steiners were a tag team force to be reckoned with in the 1980s and 1990s. As per PW Insider, the WWE has signed the team to a Legends contract.

Looks like the WWE and The Steiner Brothers are continuing a positive relationship together. They were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022 by Rick’s son, Bron Breakker who also happens to be the current NXT Champion.

The Legends deal provides them with a little leeway in areas within the company. Other Hall of Famers with a WWE legends deal include Mick Foley and The Undertaker.

The Steiners History

The Steiners entered the land of WCW in 1988 and would eventually debut in WWE in 1992. They also wrestled in ECW, Impact, and New Japan Pro Wrestling together.

Over the years, they were WCW and WWE Tag Champions. They would eventually split in 1998 while in WCW for some time and tagged with other partners.

However, they did have their fair share of reunions over the years with different promotions, too. It’s nice to know that they are back together again, working with the WWE by scoring these Legends contracts.
