Marie Osmond Admits That She’s Considered Suicide

Marie Osmond is a singer who has long been known for her positive attitude. That’s why it’s come as a shock to her fans that the 63 year-old has admitted that she’s considered suicide in the past.

Osmond Admits To Suicidal Thoughts

“I have been on my knees in tears thinking the world would be a better place without me,” Osmond told Daily Mail in a surprising new interview.

Osmond went on to reveal that she experienced suicidal thoughts while suffering from postpartum depression in the 1980s and 1990s.

“When I had post partum depression I was really down,” she said, adding that this was a terrifying time in her life.

Osmond is the mother of eight children: Stephen, 39, Jessica, 35, Rachael, 33, Brandon, 26, Brianna, 25, Matthew, 23, and Abigail, 20. Her son Michael, who was born in 1991, sadly committed suicide himself back in 2010.

It was after Osmond began experiencing postpartum depression that she realized that she was working too hard and was lacking the right balance in her life.

“I had the crazy career, everything seemed to be going well, but when the post partum hit, it shook me,” she explained. “I didn’t have balance. You need to work but you also need to take some time for yourself to unwind.”

Osmond Gushes Over Her Husband

Osmond credits her first husband Steve Craig with helping her to bounce back from her postpartum depression battle. They were first married from 1982 until 1985, and though they divorced, they got married again in 2011 and have been together ever since. During the interim, Osmond was married to Brian Blosil from 1986 until 2007.

“Craig knows me, the real me, and we are blessed,” she said. “We are lucky to be together. The second time around you realize what is important in life, it’s being together and finding the joy in simple things in life. My children adore him.”

“He is fun to hang out with,” she continued. “We both grew up with big families. We love being around our grandchildren.”

Osmond concluded by saying that her strong Christian faith leads her to believe that God does not want people to be depressed, and instead wants them to be happy.

“God wants us to lead a full life and He wants our journey to be rich and full,” she said. “Be healthy and you will have the best life. There is nothing worse than being in a miserable relationship. Get out of it and be healthy.”

‘God Gives You Respites’

This isn’t the first time that Osmond has tried to be open about her own mental health struggles in order to help others.

“God gives you respites in between, a little bit,” Osmond told WRAL two months ago. “I also believe that by sharing, you don’t feel alone. You feel like other people understand.”

“God says, there’s joy in sorrow; I don’t think there’s any joy in sorrow,” she added. “I think the joy that is spoken of, the way I believe it means, is that, I can look at somebody and say, I understand and they know I do.”

Depression is sadly something that millions of people suffer from, and it isn’t talked about enough. God bless Osmond for using her platform to share her own triumphs over her suicidal thoughts with the world.

We’re so glad that you decided to stay with us, Marie!
