Dolly Parton Declares ‘I’m A Rock Star Now’ As She Debuts New Rock Song

The country music legend Dolly Parton was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this past weekend, and she closed out the ceremony by debuting her new rock song!

‘I’m A Rock Star Now!’

Entertainment Weekly reported that Parton, 76, celebrated her induction in her acceptance speech by proudly declaring herself to be a “rock star.”

“I’m a rock star now!” she said. “This is a very special night for me.”

Parton went on to address the fact that she had previously removed herself from consideration for this honor earlier this year.

“I’m sure a lot of you knew that back when they said they were gonna put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I didn’t feel like I had done enough to deserve that,” she admitted. “I didn’t understand at the time that it’s about more than that, but I’m just so honored and so proud to be here tonight.”

Parton’s New Rock Song

At the end of the ceremony, Parton brought the house down with her new rock song “Rockin’,” which she performed alongside the Zac Brown Band.

Parton also confirmed that her next album will be a rock album, according to Vulture.

“My husband is a huge rock fan and he’s always said ‘you should do it,’” she said. “But if I’m gonna be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I’m gonna have to earn it. And you thought I couldn’t rock & roll!”

Parton was referring to her husband Carl Dean, who she has been married to for 56 years. Dean is a private person who prefers to remain out of the spotlight, but he always seems to be supporting Parton from behind the scenes.

Elsewhere in the show, Parton performed her iconic song “Jolene” with Brandi Carlile and Pink, as well as with her fellow inductees Pat Benatar, Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon, Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart, and Judas Priest’s Rob Halford.

Parton Tried To Decline Hall Of Fame Honor

Parton made headlines back in March when she asked to be removed from consideration to be inducted into the

“Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right,” she said. “I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”

The Hall of Fame fired back by refusing Parton’s request, letting her know that she would be considered whether she likes it or not. Once she heard this, Parton backed down and allowed herself to be considered willingly.

“Of course I will accept it gracefully,” she said afterwards. “Thanks to everyone that voted for me and to everyone at the @rockhall. I will continue to work hard and try to live up to the honor.”

We’re so glad that Parton changed her mind about this honor, and we can’t wait to hear her upcoming rock album when it comes out. Dolly Parton really is a rock star!
