The country music world is in mourning this week after the singer and songwriter Jake Flint died in his sleep over the weekend hours after his wedding. He was only 37 years-old.

Flint Dies Suddenly

Daily Mail reported that Flint married his wife Brenda in his home state of Oklahoma on Saturday night. He then died in his sleep hours later, and the cause of death has yet to be reported, according to The Oklahoman.

“We should be going through wedding photos but instead I have to pick out clothes to bury my husband in. People aren’t meant to feel this much pain,” Brenda wrote on social media on Tuesday. “My heart is gone and I just really need him to come back. I can’t take much more. I need him here.”

Flint’s death was confirmed by his longtime publicist Clif Doyal, who talked about what a loss this is for the country music community in Oklahoma.

“He was not only a client, he was a dear friend and just a super nice guy,” Doyal said. “As you can see from the outpouring on social media, he was loved by everybody. I think a lot of it was just that he was a people person, and he had an amazing sense of humor. He made everybody laugh, and he made everybody feel welcome.”

“He was an ambassador for Oklahoma Red Dirt music,” he added.

More Tributes For Flint

Mike Hosty, a one-man band who performed at Flint’s wedding hours before his death, opened up about what it was like.

“It was rainy, but he’d rented a 40-by-60 circus tent,” Hosty said. “They put up a bunch of carpets over the mud and then got two pieces of three-and-a-quarter-inch plywood and set it on the ground — and that was my stage. Jake goes, ‘Is that gonna be all right for you?’ And I go, ‘Jake, that’s perfect.’ A piece of plywood or a flatbed trailer is where I shine.”

“I still have the mud in my old van… but it was just a fun wedding,” he continued. “And it’s just a tragedy what happened.”

Flint’s sudden loss was also felt by his longtime manager Brenda Cline, who described him as being “much like a son” to her.

“With a broken heart and in deep grief I must announce that Jake Flint has tragically passed away,” she wrote on Facebook. “We were just about to embark on some business together after he and Brenda got married- which was yesterday. Yes-yesterday.”

Flint’s Life And Career

Born in rural Oklahoma in 1985, Flint later moved to Tulsa, where his bio states that he was an “outcast country kid in the city.” Passionate about music from a young age, Flint began performing when his father was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and could no longer physically interact with his son.

Devastated that he couldn’t take part in sports with his son, Flint’s father brought in some friends to teach the boy how to play guitar and eventually take him to regional bluegrass festivals. Flint’s father sadly died of his illness, and this loss helped to inspire much of his music. Entertainment Tonight reported that Flint released his first album “I’m Not OK” in 2016, and his sophomore, self-titled album in 2020. His loved ones have set up a GoFundMe page to help his widow and other relatives through this extremely difficult time.
