Patricio Pitbull: ‘I’m A Fighter. I’m Technical,’ Not A Brawler

Reigning Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Pitbull took exception to his critics this weekend.

Pitbull defended his title with a decision victory over top contender Adam Borics in the main event of Bellator 286.

While it was a masterful showing for the top-ranked pound-for-pound Bellator fighter, some were unhappy. The fight came on the heels of an all-out-brawl won by AJ McKee over Spike Carlyle.

“People sometimes want to see a street fight, like AJ McKee and that guy, Spike. That’s amazing, but that’s a bar brawl,” Pitbull said. “I’m a fighter. I’m technical. I’m going to take my opponent at the right moment. I am a professional fighter; I don’t care about that. I just told everyone, ‘Fuck you.’”

A former two-division champion, Pitbull moved to 34-5 overall with the win, handing Borics just his second career loss in the process.

“That was what I was expecting. He’s very good, very calm,” he said of his challenger. “I was just trying to see the right moment to act, and that was what happened during the fight. I always am looking for the right moment, the right timing. He likes to fight when his opponents come forward; he’s very confident on that.

“I went to the middle of the cage to make some pressure, to make him make a mistake. That’s what I was trying to do the whole time.”

As for what is next, it appears Pitbull wants to try his hand at the lightweight title once more.

“The champion [Sergio Pettis] is hurt, so the interim champ is (Raufeon) Stots now. They have the final for the Grand Prix, so we have a lot of time,” he said. “We need to see what will happen with the division, but I am ready.

“I know if I ask for that fight, Bellator will give it to me. Let’s do it. Let me get that belt.”
