Oprah Winfrey Slammed For Defending Meghan And Harry Following The Queen’s Death

Oprah Winfrey responded to the tragic death of Queen Elizabeth last week by defending Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, and it didn’t take long for this to backfire on the media mogul.

Oprah Speaks Out On Queen’s Death

On Thursday Oprah told Extra, in the wake of Queen Elizabeth dying at the age of 96, that she hopes her passing will allow Meghan and Harry to make “peace” with the royal family.

“Well, this is what I think. I think in all families — you know, my father passed recently, this summer — and when all families come together for a common ceremony, the ritual of, you know, burying your dead, there’s an opportunity for peacemaking,” Oprah said.

“And hopefully, there will be that,” she added.

Social Media Users Fire Back

Daily Mail reported that this did not sit well with social media users, who were quick to remind Oprah that she’s the one who gave Meghan and Harry the first interview in which they bashed the royal family relentlessly last year. Since that interview, which took place in March of 2021, the Queen had to deal with Meghan and Harry attacking the royal family seemingly every chance they got.

“Oprah forgets she started this. Maybe an apology would help with the peacemaking,” one social media user stated, with another adding, “Oprah, you had plenty of opportunities to ask real questions and dispute some of the things said. But, you didn’t. And trying to convince the public that this wasn’t choreographed to the nth degree? Come on, Sis. You can’t fool us anymore…”

“Oprah talks about ‘burying the dead’ and says she hopes it will help Prince Harry and Meghan ‘make peace’ with the royals. She’s priceless isn’t she,” yet another social media user asserted. “Never scrutinized a word [Harry and Meghan] said… She calls herself a serious talk show host.”

“Hey @Oprah if you cared for that family you wouldn’t have given them a platform to badmouth the RF family. After your interview the anger between them widened. So stop the BS talk,” tweeted a frustrated user, with another one writing, “Oprah has a cheek, when she provided the platform for Meghan to trash our Queen and Royal Family – and encouraged her!”

Meghan Whines About Royals In Oprah Interview

In the now-infamous interview with Oprah, Markle whined that she was “silenced” by the royals and claimed she was “given a very clear directive from the moment the world knew she and Harry were dating to always say, ‘No comment.'”

“I’ve always been outspoken, especially about women’s rights, and that’s the sad irony of the last four years – I’ve advocated for so long for women to use their voice,” Meghan complained.

Meghan went on to say that she felt like she wasn’t “protected” by the royal family, while “other members of the family” were.

“It was only once we were married and everything started to really worsen that I came to understand that not only was I not being protected, but that they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family,” she decried. “They weren’t willing to tell the truth to protect me and my husband.”

Oprah had no problem making the Queen’s final years difficult by giving Meghan and Harry the platform to bash the royal family like it was their full-time job. We’re glad to see that social media users are finally holding Oprah accountable and not letting her take advantage of the Queen’s death for personal gain; shamelessly pretending she’s the bigger person.
