‘Euphoria’ Star Dragged For MAGA-Style Hats At Mom’s Birthday Party

Sydney Sweeney, a 24-year-old Hollywood star best known for starring in “Euphoria” and “White Lotus,” found herself in hot water after throwing a hoedown-style party for her mother’s 60th birthday that featured “Make Sixty Great Again” hats.

Sweeney Responds To Backlash

Sweeney responded to the backlash on Twitter, writing, “You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!”

Fox News reported that this came after photos shared by Sweeney’s brother showed guests wearing hats that parodied former President Donald Trump’s MAGA, or “Make America Great Again,” slogan. Another photo shows a male guest wearing a “Blue Lives Matter” shirt while standing next to Sweeney’s mother and grandmother.

The party was planned by Sweeney, and also featured bull riding and dancing, with guests decked out in cowboy attire. Sweeney herself shared photos from the party as well, captioning them, “No better way to celebrate my momma than a surprise hoedown.”

Social Media Users Slam Sweeney

A few social media users came to Sweeney’s defense, with one saying, “We love you and Trump don’t let the woke mob silence you.” 

“My dad voted for Trump (twice) and I still love him lmao, just because your family thinks one way doesn’t mean you all have to think the same,” another person tweeted, according to People Magazine. 

While Sweeney did not address where she stands politically in her response to the backlash, she has expressed seemingly “woke” views in the past.

“We need to do better. the hate in this world needs to end. #BlackLivesMatter,” she tweeted on May 31, 2020.

Sweeney Nominated For Two Emmy Awards

Sweeney is currently nominated for two Emmy Awards. She’s up for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for season 2 of “Euphoria,” as well as outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie for “White Lotus.”

“I’m excited, I’m in disbelief, I’m beyond appreciative. It’s a great day!” she said after her nominations were announced last month, adding that the first thing that she did after hearing the news was to call her family.

“I was in the car and my phone started blowing up. I saw it and I called my mom,” Sweeney said. “Then, I called my team, then my dad, then my brother. I was just … sitting in the car!”

It’s sad to see that Hollywood has become so drastically leftwing that an actress having a family that gives any sign of possibly being conservative is enough to see her be targeted by the cancel culture mob. It’s unfortunate that what should have been a wholesome and fun party for Sweeney’s mother has been twisted in such a negative way.

No wonder so many conservative actors choose to stay silent about their political views.
