It isn’t often UFC president Dana White admits a mistake.
But he did so recently when asked about Shane Burgos.
The featherweight contender signed a contract with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) as a free agent. He will enter into the 2023 featherweight regular season tournament in hopes of winning $1 million.
“Basically, there were some mistakes that were made here, some (expletive) that, he should’ve still been here,” White said (thanks to Yahoo! Sports for the quotes). “I respect him very much and I wish him the best.”
The 31-year-old won his last two UFC fights, besting Charles Jourdain and Billy Quarantillo. He is 15-3 overall with 10 finishes, including wins over Cub Swanson and Makwan Amirkhani.
“100 percent, 100 percent,” White said. “Big mistakes were made over here.”
Burgos revealed during a recent interview that he will be able to do commentary for upcoming PFL events. He signed with the UFC in 2016 and went 8-3 during his time inside the Octagon.
