Aaron Rodgers Says Illegal Psychedelic Drug Helped Him Win MVP

The Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers shocked everyone this week when he credited the controversial Amazonian psychedelic drug ayahuasca with leading him to his best NFL season ever.

Rodgers Admits To Using Ayahuasca

Daily Mail reported that Rodgers, 38, is going into the 2022 season as the two-time reigning NFL MVP, and he just admitted to consuming ayahuasca on a trip to South America before he won the MVP award in 2020 and 2021. While appearing on the Aubrey Marcus Podcast, Rodgers said that the psychedelic drug, which is a psychoactive tea containing the hallucinogenic drug DMT, helped improve his mental health.

“To me, one of the core tenets of your mental health is that self-love,” Rodgers said. “That’s what ayahuasca did for me, was help me see how to unconditionally love myself.”

“It’s only in that unconditional self-love, that then I’m able to truly be able to unconditionally love others,” he continued. “And what better way to work on my mental health than to have an experience like that?”

Ayahuasca has been used for thousands of years as a traditional healing method in Central and South America, and it is typically used by tribes in the Amazon. It contains Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a controlled substance that is illegal to possess or distribute in both the U.S. and the U.K. This means that those who want to use ayahuasca must travel to places like Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, and Costa Rica for retreats that cost an average of $3,500 a week.

Rodgers Credits Ayahuasca With Winning MVP

Rodgers went on to say that he believes that his experience with the drug and winning the MVPs were connected, as he noticed a change in his relationship with the Packers after taking it.

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence,” Rodgers said. “I really don’t. I don’t really believe in coincidences at this point. It’s the universe bringing things to happen when they’re supposed to happen.”

“There’s signs and synchronicities all around us at all times if we’re awake enough to see them and to take them in and to listen to our intuition when it’s speaking to us or pounding us in the head saying, ‘Hey dummy, this is what you’re supposed to be doing,'” he continued.

Rodgers then said that taking ayahuasca impacted his life in ways that he never saw coming.

‘I Was Opening My Eyes For The First Time’

“I laid there afterward on my mat and then opened my eyes and it felt like I was opening my eyes for the first time,” he recalled. “I really feel like that experience paved the way for me to have the best season of my career. The greatest gift I can give my teammates, in my opinion, is to be able to show up and to be someone who can model unconditional love to them. They won’t care about what you say until they know how much you care.”

Other celebrities who have openly admitted to using ayahuasca include Will Smith, Megan Fox, and Chelsea Handler. Though Rodgers has led the Packers to three straight NFC North titles, he hasn’t reached the Super Bowl since Green Bay’s 2010 championship season. Last season, the Packers lost 13-10 to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional playoffs.

Perhaps if Rodgers did a little more ayahuasca, he’d actually make the Super Bowl!
