Did You Know? Woody Harrelson’s Dad Was A Notorious Hitman

Woody Harrelson is one of my favorite actors. From Cheers to Natural Born Killers and True Detective, Harrelson can play both the crazed lunatic and the put-upon everyman with ease. But like a lot of actors, he has a wild past that no doubt informs his high-level acting.

Let’s dig in a bit on his wildlife. 

His Father Was A Notorious Murderer 

Woody Harrelson was boring in Midland, Texas the son of Diane and Charles Harrelson. 

Charles Harrelson was a hitman who worked for the crime outfit Murder Inc. In 1979, the elder Harrelson was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of federal Judge John Wood Jr. 

Harrelson did not grow up with his father and was primarily raised by his mother in Ohio.

Judge Wood was not Charles’ first murder. He was tried and later acquitted for the murder of Alan Harry Berg in 1970.

In 1973 he was sentenced to fifteen years for the murder of Sam Degalia. He was let out in 1978 for good behavior.

In 1979, the elder Harrelson murdered federal Judge Wood on the orders of El Paso drug kingpin Jamiel Chagra. Chagra allegedly ordered the hit out of fear that Wood would put him in jail for a long time on drug charges.

Harrelson killed Wood on the day Chagra was to be charged. Charles denied killing Wood.

Before surrendering to police, Charles Harrelson made a claim, while allegedly high on cocaine, that he killed President John F. Kennedy as well. Though Harrelson later claimed he made the statement simply to “elongate his life” during the stand-off. 

Harrelson’s denial did not stop conspiracy theorists from speculating that Harrelson was deeply involved in the conspiracy to assassinate Kennedy. 

Charles Harrelson was sentenced to life in prison and died incarcerated in 2007. 

There was a possible reference to Harrelson’s crime in one of Woody’s films, No Country For Old Men.

Woody Harrelson: Hollywood’s Most Famous Vegan

Perhaps trying to avoid his father’s murderous ways, Woody went the complete other direction. He is one of Hollywood’s most famous vegans. 

He even had vegan twinkies made just for him!

And paid first class to his vegan pants could travel in style.

He’s a hardcore vegan so much so that he doesn’t even eat cooked food. 

While that may seem healthy, according to many nutrition experts, raw veganism can leave you without many vital proteins and nutrients such as iodine, b12, calcium, and vitamin D.
