Martha Stewart Mourns After Pet Peacocks ‘Devoured’ By Coyotes

The iconic media personality Martha Stewart was left devastated over the weekend when she announced that her beloved pet peacocks had been brutally killed by coyotes in broad daylight outside her home in Katonah, New York.

‘The Coyotes Came In Broad Daylight’

Daily Mail reported that Stewart, 80, revealed on Instagram on Saturday that a peacock she had named “Blueboy” was among those that were killed in the savage attack.

“RIP beautiful BlueBoy,” Stewart wrote alongside a video of the majestic peacock spreading his incredible feathers.

“The coyotes came in broad daylight and devoured him and five others including the magnificent White Boy,” she added. “Any solutions for getting rid of six large and aggressive coyotes who have expensive tastes when it comes to poultry?”

“We are no longer allowing the peafowl out of their yard, we are enclosing the top of their large yard with wire fencing etc.,” Stewart continued.

Stewart’s Peacocks Had Been ‘Liberated’

Stewart had revealed in November of last year that her peacocks and peahens were being “liberated,” which meant that they could roam the farm during the day outside of their enclosure.

“Having been confined for two years in a half acre enclosure I decided to grant them daylight freedom- aka the run of the farm !” she wrote in an Instagram post at the time alongside some photos of her peacocks.

“Until they have to return at twilight to their secure Palais for the night when the wild predators make the rounds of the chicken coops, pigeon house and geese yard,” Stewart continued. “The peacocks are so friendly and sociable and clean they are welcome everywhere. And they are beautiful.”

While it is not clear how many peacocks Stewart has at this time, she tweeted in May of 2021 that she had “21 of these glorious birds whose house is impeccable.”

“They do not smell. They are so clean!” she wrote. “Their voices are loud but such fun to hear. They are so friendly.”

Peacocks ‘Are Quite Clever And Very Curious’

In a June blog post, Stewart wrote that she had three newly hatched baby peafowl in her stable feed room and “more youngsters in an outdoor enclosure.”

“Baby chicks need constant monitoring until they are at least four or five weeks old,” Stewart explained. “Peacocks and peahens are very smart, docile, and adaptable birds. They are also quite clever and very curious.”

USA Today reported that this comes just three months after Stewart’s beloved cat Princess Peony was killed in an encounter with one of her own dogs.

“Burying the beautiful and unusual Princess Peony,” Stewart wrote alongside a photo of the cat’s burial. “The four dogs mistook her for an interloper and killed her defenseless little self. i will miss her very badly.”

Princess Peony was one of two calico Persian cats that Stewart owned, the other being Empress Tang, who appears to still be alive. Please join us in saying a prayer for Stewart, her family, and her pets as they mourn this latest loss.
