Guess Why Pat Benatar Will No Longer Perform ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’

The legendary singer Pat Benatar has gone “woke” in the most disappointingly ridiculous way possible, as she has announced that she will no longer be performing her iconic song “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.” Can you guess why?

Benatar Refuses To Perform ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’

Benatar, 69, recently told USA Today that she will not be singing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” at her concerts moving forward because she believes the song is disrespectful to those who have been impacted by mass shootings. While she acknowledged that she’s gotten backlash from some fans for not performing the song, she’s standing by what she describes as her “small protest.”

“We’re not doing ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’ and fans are having a heart attack and I’m like, I’m sorry, in deference to the victims of the families of these mass shootings, I’m not singing it,” she said. “I tell them, if you want to hear the song, go home and listen to it.”

“(The title) is tongue-in-cheek, but you have to draw the line,” Benatar continued. “I can’t say those words out loud with a smile on my face, I just can’t. I’m not going to go on stage and soapbox – I go to my legislators – but that’s my small contribution to protesting. I’m not going to sing it. Tough.”

The Washington Examiner reported that “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” was Benatar’s first top ten hit, as it hit No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in 1980. While she won’t be performing this “offensive” song any longer, Benatar said that she will perform hits from earlier in her career, like “We Belong” and “Heartbreaker,” according to CNN.

Benatar Whines About Roe v. Wade

Benatar went on to whine about the Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v. Wade, a ruling that handed the issue of abortion back to the states.

“I’m worried, like all of us, about fundamental autonomy rights,” she lamented. “This is a slippery slope. It’s not about abortion for me. I’m concerned that people are not paying attention to what this actually means.”

Benatar will be closing out her 2022 tour later this year after she is inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November with other artists like Eminem and Dolly Parton, among others, according to 10WBNS.

Benatar is also taking part in the four-part docuseries called “Women Who Rock” on Epix, which takes a look at the birth of rock ‘n’ roll and women who were initially not taken seriously in the industry.

Benatar’s Family Life

Benatar is joined on this tour by her husband Neil Giraldo, also a musician. In her latest interview, she discussed what it was like having two daughters with Giraldo while also trying to make it in the industry.

“I was madly in love with Neil and wanted to have a baby and was like, we’ll figure it out,” Benatar recalled. “The reality of it was terrifying. There was no help from the record company and management. They were absolutely furious that I (got pregnant).”

‘My manager said, ‘Why would you do something like that?'” she continued. “You knew the misogyny was there, but when that happened, it became amazingly clear. It changed everything for me. I became really, really fierce.”

It’s disappointing to see that Benatar has gone so “woke” that she sees as harmless song a song as “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” as being offensive and dangerous. Perhaps her fans should let Benatar know what they think about her new “woke” ways by not going to her concerts at all.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
