‘AGT’ Judges All Hit Golden Buzzer For Tribute To Dolly Parton

The judges of “America’s Got Talent” broke their own rules this week when they unanimously hit the Golden Buzzer for a trio from Mississippi that performed an ode to the country music legend Dolly Parton.

Chapel Hart Performs

USA Today reported that the trio known as Chapel Hart was made up of two sisters and their cousin, and they took the stage to perform a musical tribute to their hero Parton that they called “You Can Have Him, Jolene,” which was meant to be a follow up to her iconic hit song “Jolene.”

The crowd got so into the performance that by the end of it, they were chanting “Golden Buzzer.” The trio even impressed judge Simon Cowell, who is notoriously difficult to please.

“Trust me, I needed you today,” he said. “That was fantastic. I love you.”

‘It’s Been Kind Of Hard’

Chapel Hart then opened up about how difficult it has been for them to succeed in the crazy world of country music.

“We’ve been trying to break into Nashville for the last couple of years, but it’s been kind of hard,” said lead singer Danica Hart. “Country music doesn’t always look like us.”

Judge Heidi Klum said that the trio is “is infectious,” while judge Sofia Vergara added that the act “was perfect.”

“You guys look like you’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’m so proud of you guys,” Vergara continued as she became emotional.

After Cowell and Klum said that they each would have used their Golden Buzzers on Chapel Hart had they not used them already this season, the judges broke into a huddle, and host Terry Crews quickly joined them. When they returned, the judges all hit the Golden Buzzer at the same time, sending Chapel Hart right through to the live shows!

Inspiration Behind Song

Chapel Hart is comprised of sisters Danica and Devlyn Hart and cousin Trea Swindle. Danica previously told CMT that their song “You Can Have Him, Jolene” was inspired by a shirt that Devlyn wore to their video shoot for their cover of Parton’s “9 to 5.”

“Devlyn had on a shirt that read, ’You can have him, signed Jolene,’” Danica recalled. “I had to stop and say, ’That’s a statement.’ If you think about that idea, it’s like, ’Who does this heifer think she is to take somebody, then turn around, and tell him that she can have him back?’ So I thought, ’What if we wrote a song from the other perspective, where the woman [who loses her partner] in ’Jolene’ is okay with losing him.”

She added that the women wrote the song in just thirty minutes.

The women in Chapel Hart could not be more excited to perform live for America later this season.

“When it comes to your dreams, it doesn’t matter how crazy it is or how outlandish they are,” Swindle said. “If they said that’s not a real job, show them it is.”

Their performance has already gone viral, garnering over a million views in just twelve hours. We can’t wait to see how Chapel Hart does later this season!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
