Alec Baldwin Is Going To Interview Woody Allen – No One Is Pleased

Alec Baldwin is in a bit of hot water again. Baldwin announced he will be interviewing disgraced director Woody Allen on Instagram Live. 

Allen, known for playing the clarinet and making movies “smart” people pretend to laugh at, has been persona non grata in Hollywood following revelations that he may have sexually abused his adopted daughter when she was very young. 

Baldwin, who it seems to me thinks himself immune to the consequences of his actions, announced the interview in a rather defiant Instagram post.

“…I have ZERO INTEREST in anyone’s judgments and sanctimonious posts here. I am OBVIOUSLY someone who has my own set of beliefs and COULD NOT CARE LESS about anyone else’s speculation. If you believe that a trial should be conducted by way of an HBO documentary, that’s your issue.”

I Don’t Care For Woody Allen

I like movies. I consider myself a cinephile. But unlike many of my fellow silver screen fiends, I don’t care for Woody Allen. I disliked Allen before it came out that he was a possible pedophile. I just don’t find his movies or writing particularly good.

There’s nothing particularly likable about his characters or the story he tells. I’ve been told his unlikeability is the “point” and that Allen is supposed to play a lovable loser that is heavier on the loser. 

Another problem I have with Allen is how he writes women. In Allen’s world, women are almost impossibly complicated and so their personalities and motivations can only be seen through the lens of a confused and often-times defeated Allen. The consequence of that is a woman is only as worthy of attention or understanding as it pertains to dealing with a man. 

The claims of Allen’s feminism are greatly exaggerated. 

If you’re interested in exploring upper-middle-class urban angst, I suggest you look at Whitt Stillman films. 

Also, it should be noted that a lot of his movies have relationships with huge age gaps, which if I was rumored to be a pedo, I’d probably try to avoid.
