‘Woke’ L.A. DA Won’t Charge Dave Chappelle’s Attacker With A Felony

Earlier this week, the comedian Dave Chappelle was tackled on stage by a crazed man who was armed with a knife.

Despite this, George Gascón, the “woke” leftwing district attorney of Los Angeles, has announced that he will not be hitting the perpetrator with any felony charges, instead recommending him to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office for consideration of misdemeanor charges.

“After reviewing the evidence, prosecutors determined that while criminal conduct occurred, the evidence as presented did not constitute felony conduct,” Gascón’s office said in a statement obtained by Fox L.A. 

Comedy Club Owners Sound Off

This did not sit well with comedy club owners around the country, who feel that comedians are in more danger of being attacked than ever in the wake of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars back in March.

“This is shocking to hear,” New York comedy club owner Dani Zoldan told Fox News. “The individual that attacked Dave Chappelle did so with a knife. It was planned in advance. I’m curious what they would consider felony conduct. People should be held accountable for their actions. Not charging this person appropriately sends a message that it’s OK to physically harm someone. It’s really outrageous.

“Will Smith got an Oscar after he slapped Chris Rock and now this. LA is awesome, and residents deserve to live there violence-free,” Zoldan added. “Politicians and police need to do their job right.”

‘It Is So Unjust’

Jamie Masada, owner of the Laugh Factory chain of comedy clubs, was also disappointed that Chappelle’s attacker, who has been identified as 23 year-old Isaiah Lee, will not be facing felony charges.

“It is so unjust. I don’t know about the law, but I do know what’s right. And, from my perspective, that was a felony, not a misdemeanor,” Masada lamented. “It is just not right.” 

Lee has since been hit with the following four misdemeanor charges: battery, possession of a weapon with intent to assault, unauthorized access to the stage area during a performance, and commission of an act that delays the event or interferes with the performer. 

‘Only A Slap On The Wrist’

Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Hatami, however, felt that these misdemeanor charges were not even close to being enough.

“Anyone who arms themselves with a deadly weapon — in this case, a knife — and violently attacks an innocent person, famous or not, should be charged accordingly,” he said. “With only a misdemeanor charge, the person could be released soon with only a slap on the wrist.”

“That fails to provide justice to the victim, accountability for this person’s actions, and safety to the general public,” Hatami added. “These concepts, however, like public safety and justice, that most of us value, are concepts George Gascón can care less about.”

Los Angeles County Sheriff Slams Gascón

Throughout his time as Los Angeles District Attorney, Gascón has become infamous for his “woke” radically leftwing tendencies that many say have led to crime soaring in the city. Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who identifies as a Democrat, slammed Gascón for his “woke” ways as he blasted him for giving Chappelle’s attacker what amounts to a slap on the wrist.

“I think the entire woke universe of progressive reform has failed epically throughout the entire nation,” Villanueva said, according to Daily Mail. “These are people that did bad things that left a victim, have the evidence presented and [the DA’s office] said ‘don’t bother.” 

Villanueva alleges that Gascón has dismissed many of the cases that have been presented to him two years ago because they “don’t conform to his special directives.”

“He showed up like Moses with his 10 commandments with his tablets and said, ‘Here’s my special orders, take ’em or take ’em,'” Villanueva said. “That does not promote a good working relationship.”

Many would agree that “woke” district attorneys like Gascón are causing a crime spike in liberal-run cities all over America. It’s unfortunate that because of that, Chappelle’s deranged attacker will seemingly never be given the brutal dose of justice that he deserves.
