Break out your “Dark Side of the Moon” t-shirt! Pink Floyd is officially getting back together. And they’re doing it for a great cause.
The psychedelic art-rock band is releasing their first new music in almost 30 years.
The band reunited to record a song supporting the victims of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Here are all the details.
“Hey Hey Rise Up!”
David Gilmour (vocals, lead guitar) and Nick Mason (percussion, vocals) teamed up with Ukrainian pop star Andriy Khlyvnyuk for the song “Hey, Hey Rise Up!”
The song features Khlyvnyuk singing part of a traditional Ukrainian song he sang in front of Kyiv’s St. Sophia Cathedral.

Khlyvnyuk is the lead singer of the band BoomBox, and Gilmour previously played with the band when they performed in London.
Here’s the full video for the new song.
Several artists besides Pink Floyd have used Khlyvnyuk’s vocals to create tribute songs for Ukraine. The proceeds will go to the Ukraine Humanitarian Relief Fund.
Gilmour said, “We want to express our support for Ukraine, and in that way show that most of the world thinks that it is totally wrong for a superpower to invade the independent democratic country that Ukraine has become.”
Andriy Khlyvnyuk, frontman of Ukrainian band Boombox dropped his US tour to defend his country.
He was kind enough to let me remix this recent video of him singing a Ukranian folk song.

A Brief History Of Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd was formed in 1965 with original lead singer Syd Barrett and Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright. Gilmour joined the band in 1967.
Considered pioneers of psychedelic rock and the “concept album,” Pink Floyd gained their most tremendous success with the seminal album “Dark Side of the Moon.”

Despite an urban legend, “Dark Side” does not line up perfectly with The Wizard Of Oz. I tried it and was as disappointed as anyone could be.

Under the direction of Roger Waters, Pink Floyd became a band known for thematic and cinematic albums that discussed themes of capitalism, greed, alienation, and growing up in industrial England.
Roger Waters would leave Pink Floyd in 1985 and go on to record live tours of The Wall and Dark Side Of The Moon in their entirety.
Pink Floyd’s last album of original material was 1994’s The Division Bell.
