Piers Morgan Hollywood Hypocrites Will Smith Oscars slap Chris Rock

Hollywood is still reeling from the slap heard round the world. Everyone seems to have an opinion on how the Oscars handled Will Smith slapping Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife. Now, British television personality Piers Morgan is weighing in on the situation, describing this as one of the “greatest stories of all time.”

Piers Morgan on Hollywood: ‘Extraordinary Depth Of Hypocrisy’

“What struck me generally about the night, was – as so often with Hollywood – the extraordinary depth of hypocrisy that they all sank to,” Morgan told Fox News

One day after the Oscars, the Academy said in a statement that it had “initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy.”

Morgan, however, was not having any of it, as he felt that they were all simply pretending to be horrified by what went down.

‘This Is Disgraceful’

“‘This is disgraceful, it stains the reputation of Hollywood and the Academy Awards,'” Morgan said. “Really? Because after he slapped Chris Rock on stage and swore at him from the audience, I seem to remember him getting one of the top awards and receiving standing ovations and then going to the parties and partying like he was the most popular guy in town.”

“Spare me the fake morality of these Hollywood hypocrites,” he concluded.

Will Smith Once Threatened Piers Morgan Over Wife

This comes days after Morgan revealed that he had previously had a run-in with Smith about the actor’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith a few years ago.

“I interviewed Jada Pinkett Smith a few years ago at CNN and Will Smith actually turned up unexpectedly, and he sat in the corner watching,” Morgan told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Monday. “But before the interview started, [Smith] came up to me, and he said, ‘Mr. Morgan, don’t upset my wife. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.'”

“And I thought of that last night because he’s right,” he added. “Nobody would like him when he’s that angry. So there’s clearly another side to this guy. He’s clearly a very emotional … [and] he looked quite disturbed. I don’t know what’s going on in his life, but it certainly came out of nowhere.”

The Academy is set to meet on April 18 to figure out how best to reprimand Will Smith for assaulting Chris Rock. It’s been said that he may even be stripped of the Oscar that he won for King Richard, which might just be the most fitting end to this entire scandal.
