Jussie Smollett new song

Disgraced former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett has released a new song called “Thank You God,” in which he once again maintains his innocence after he was convicted of lying to police about allegedly staging a hate crime against himself in January of 2019.

Smollett’s New Song

You can listen to his new song in this tweet:

Smollett stated on Instagram that he released the song as a way of “channeling these thoughts the best way I know how.”

Lyrics of the song include Smollett singing about his case, saying, “You think I’m stupid enough to kill my reputation? Just to simply look like a victim, like it’s something fun // Y’all better look at someone else, you’ve got the wrong one.”

USA Today reported that Smollett has claimed that all proceeds from the song will go to charitable organizations like the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Illinois Innocence Project and Secure the Bag Safety.

Smollett Sentenced To Jail

This comes one month after Smollett was sentenced to 150 days in jail for lying to police about allegedly staging a hate crime against himself back in 2019.

He claimed that he was jumped in Chicago by two men who hurled racist and homophobic slurs at him while also shouting “this is MAGA country.”

After investigating his claims, however, police concluded that Smollett had paid two men to jump him in the hopes of garnering enough fame for himself that he could secure a pay raise on “Empire.”

During his sentencing in March, Smollett continued to claim that he was innocent.

“I am innocent, and I am not suicidal,” he added, going on to say that “if anything happens” in jail, he did not try to take his own life.

“If I did this, then it means I stuck my fist in the fears of Black Americans in this country for over 400 years and the fears of the LGBTQ community,” Smollett said. “Your honor, I respect you and I respect the jury, but I did not do this.”

Smollett Gets Released

Smollett only served a few days of his sentence before he was released while he appeals his conviction.

“I’m happy that he’s out and there has been this reprieve,” Smollett’s brother Jojo said upon his release, according to ABC7. “I am still concerned because there are still the legal challenges that he faces, but I’m really, really happy with the appeal process going our way right now.”

“He’s doing well. Trying to you know, reengage back,” JoJo added. “He’s so happy to at least be able to connect with family. He’s not out of the woods.”

Many feel that Smollett tried to play off the racial and political divisions that currently are plaguing our country for his own personal gain. These people will certainly not be happy to see that he has released new music about his case.
