Baldwin Weighs In

“And I’m sorry the Oscars turned into the Jerry Springer show,” the actor added.

Fox News reported that while the shooting on the set of Rust is still being investigated, Baldwin is attempting to resume his career, as he is currently in Rome working on an unknown project.

Even before the shooting, Baldwin was infamous for his fiery temper, so it’s interesting that he’s decided to weigh in on Smith assaulting Rock.

Michael Bay Gives His Thoughts

Bad Boys director Michael Bay also weighted in on Smith smacking Rock, saying that he was not watching the Oscars live and “really didn’t see it all go down.”

As for whether Smith should have been escorted out of the venue, Bay said that he doesn’t “know the rules, but it was a little unlike Will. He’s a very steady guy.”

“My reaction was like everyone’s reaction,” he continued. “He’s a great guy – I’ve never seen him mad. I just saw the clip, you know. And I’m no one to judge. He’s just not an angry guy.”

Smith smacked Rock after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith being bald by comparing her to the character “G.I. Jane.”

Could Smith Be Stripped Of Oscar?

One high-level Hollywood source told The New York Post that Smith could end up being stripped of the Oscar that he won later in the night for King Richard.

“It’s basically assault. Everyone was just so shocked in the room, it was so uncomfortable,” this source said. “I think Will would not want to give his Oscar back, but who knows what will happen now.”

The Academy cryptically addressed the situation on Twitter, saying that it “does not condone violence of any form. Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world.”

Academy officials are said to be meeting over the next few days to decide what punishment, if any, that Smith will face. It will certainly be interesting to see how those talks pan out.
