Country Music Stars Praise Mickey Guyton For Incredible National Anthem Performance At Super Bowl LVI

One of the highlights of last night’s Super Bowl was country music star Mickey Guyton’s stirring rendition of the national anthem. Now, Guyton’s fellow country music stars are speaking out to praise her for her performance.

In case you missed it, check out four-time Grammy nominated Guyton’s performance for yourself below.

Country Music Stars Praise Guyton

Fox News reported that many country music stars took to social media to heap praise on Guyton, 38, after her performance.

“Now the world knows what us in Nashville have known for years. Smashed it, Mickey. @MickeyGuyton #SuperBowl,”  tweeted the Brothers Osbourne, with Maren Morris simply adding, “Wow @MickeyGuyton.”

“Well done @MickeyGuyton !! Showing us all how it’s done. @SamPalladio and I couldn’t keep it together!” Cassadee Pope wrote.

Pope later responded to ta tweet from actress Halle Berry praising Guyton, writing, “Was getting annoyed that more country artists weren’t publicly showing support for our girl… then I saw this. Moving on.”

‘Huge Moment For Black People’

Before her performance, Guyton opened up about why she sees it as “a huge moment for black people.”

Guyton, who is known for her hits such as “All American” and “Black Like Me”, has also been outspoken about what the opportunity has meant to her.

“It’s Black History Month, and a black country singer gets to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl. Wow,” Guyton, 38, told The New York Post. “This is a huge moment for me. It’s a huge moment for black people. And I want to represent that in the best possible way that I can.”

Going into the performance, Guyton made it clear that her main goal for singing the national anthem was to bring about unity in a time of great division.

“I set my intentions with singing the national anthem. I was like, ‘OK, togetherness is what I really want,’” she said. “So, I felt the way that people would feel togetherness is if I had a choir, with people that I believe represent America. And, you know, I have everybody from my black queen to a redneck cowboy to a girl that has one leg in this choir. And that’s the America that I’m proud of — us all standing together. We all belong.”

Guyton also said that she would like to see more black women find success in the country music world.

“I want to see more women,” she said. “It is not enough for just one black woman to make it in country music — or anywhere. It’s not enough, like, there can’t just be one.”

Who Was Guyton Rooting For?

As for who she was rooting for in the Super Bowl, Guyton made no secret of the fact that she was cheering for the Los Angeles Rams, who ultimately came out on top over the Cincinnati Bengals.

“My husband [lawyer Grant Savoy] is from Los Angeles, so he’s a Rams fan. As soon as they came [back] to Los Angeles, he gave up his team, which was originally the Philadelphia Eagles,” said Guyton. “So he would kill me — or divorce me, not kill me — if I went for anybody else.”

At a time when it feels like our national anthem is disrespected left and right at sporting events, we applaud Guyton for delivering such an incredible rendition of it. I think we can all agree that she knocked it out of the park!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
