Alec Baldwin Says He’s Spending ‘Time With God’ After Handing Over Cellphone To Authorities Investigating ‘Rust’ Shooting

After finally turning over his cellphone to authorities investigating the fatal shooting that took place on the set of the movie Rust and took the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Alec Baldwin took to social media to share a faith-based message with his fans. 

Baldwin’s Faith-Based Message

Baldwin, 63, posted a photo to his Instagram page that showed light in his bathroom reflecting on the marble counter as a rainbow.

“My favorite part of the day is early in the morning when I get up before anyone else and the house is totally silent,” Baldwin wrote in the caption. “I spend that time with God, and I find that the silence strengthens me and helps me get focused for the day. I spend some time just sitting and enjoying it.”

“Our world today is very noisy, busy, and at times very stressful,” he added. “When you feel stressed or frustrated, go somewhere that is silent and just enjoy if for a few minutes; I believe you will find that your soul begins to calm down. Inner peace and quiet are vital for hearing from God or sensing the direction He wants us to take.”

Baldwin concluded by saying that “outer silence” is a good way for people to “hear the still, small voice of God.”

Baldwin Gets Spiritual After Shooting 

Baldwin has seemingly gotten more in touch with his spirituality in the weeks since a gun he was holding on the set of Rust went off, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

Earlier this month, he’d said that he was meeting with spiritual and philosophical leaders to try and come to terms with Hutchins’ death.

“I’ve had more people who have been kind and thoughtful and generous of spirit than I’ve had, you know, people who are malignant,” he said in a video posted to Instagram. “The death of Halyna Hutchins. I’m not afraid to say that and to couch that in some euphemism… Somebody died, very tragically.”

Baldwin Turns Over Cellphone

This comes after Baldwin finally turned over his cellphone to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation into this shooting continues. He had previously come under fire for not turning over the cellphone sooner.

Here’s what he has to say about it:

“Alec voluntarily provided his phone to the authorities this morning so they can finish their investigation,” Aaron Dyer, Baldwin’s civil attorney, told Fox News. 

“But this matter isn’t about his phone, and there are no answers on his phone. Alec did nothing wrong,” he continued. “It is clear that he was told it was a cold gun and was following instructions when this tragic accident occurred. The real question that needs to be answered is how live rounds got on the set in the first place.”

Prosecutors have said that criminal charges are not off the table for Baldwin or anyone else who was involved in the Rust shooting. It remains to be seen how this investigation will play out.
