‘Scandal’ Star Joshua Malina Pens Scathing Op-Ed Targeting ‘Raging Anti-Semite’ Mel Gibson And Cancel Culture

Hollywood star Joshua Malina, a Jewish dad and actor known for his roles in “The West Wing” and “Scandal”, wrote a scathing culture piece for the The Atlantic in which he railed against “raging anti-Semite” Mel Gibson after hearing the Academy Award winner was in talks to direct Lethal Weapon 5.  Malina’s piece concludes that cancel culture cannot possibly exist if “Hollywood is still hiring” Mel Gibson.

‘Scandal’ Actor Pens ‘Cancel Mel Gibson’ Piece

Variety reported that Warner Bros. has tapped Gibson to direct the fifth installment in the popular Lethal Weapon franchise. Gibson starred opposite Danny Glover when Lethal Weapon first hit the big screen back in 1987.

The news did not sit well with Malina, given Gibson’s controversial past that includes allegations of anti-Semitic remarks, racism, domestic abuse, as well as other things.

“If Gibson is welcomed back to direct the latest installment of this beloved franchise, it may be time to stop publishing think pieces about the power of ‘cancel culture,’” Malina wrote in his op-ed for The Atlantic. “Because if he can continue to find big bucks and approbation in Hollywood, cancel culture simply does not exist.”

When pulled over by a police officer for allegedly driving drunk back in 2006, Gibson went off on a disturbing anti-Semitic rant.

Malina also took issue with Gibson being seen saluting former President Donald Trump over the summer at a UFC event.

Joshua Malina Questions Hollywood’s Short Memory

“This might feel like a smaller matter if it didn’t come at a moment when members of my tribe feel the walls closing in again. Jews were the victims in more than 50 percent of religious-based hate crimes last year,” Malina wrote.

“In recent years, we’ve witnessed the Tree of Life massacre in Pittsburgh, the murder at the Chabad of Poway synagogue in California, Jewish students harassed on college campuses, European anti-Semitism on the rise—these are the headlines that make us feel unsafe. Is this really the time to glorify a man like Mel Gibson?” he added.

Later in his op-ed, Malina questioned, “How did this guy become such a hot ticket again? Is it just that memories of his hate speech have faded, while Hollywood’s recollection of his box-office pull remains?”

Joshua Malina Calls Out Warner Bros.

Not stopping there, Malina proceeded to blast Warner Bros. for continuing to work with Gibson despite his background.

“It would be great if higher-profile executives, producers, and actors would also take a stand. Then I could believe in this cancel culture I keep reading so much about,” Malina concluded. “And I could also believe that Jews do, in fact, count.”

Representatives for both Gibson and Warner Bros. declined to comment when contacted by Fox News.

It remains to be seen whether Joshua Malina’s ‘Cancel Mel Gibson’ op-ed will be enough to cost Gibson his gig directing Lethal Weapon 5

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
