Legendary country music star Randy Travis has just released a new Christmas music video for the song “There’s A New Kid In Town,” and it’s sure to bring a tear to your eye!
Travis recently re-released his 1989 album Old Time Christmas which is a remastered collection of holiday music. He’ll also be celebrating his 35th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry with a special Opry performance on Dec. 11.
The song, “There’s A New Kid In Town,” was written by Keith Whitley along with Curly Putman and Don Cook in the 80s. Michael Johnson (known for his hit “Bluer Than Blue”) recorded it in 1985. Since that time, it’s become a country music favorite around the holidays.
“I hope fans see the true reason for the season in this video. Jesus, our Lord, and togetherness. That’s what it’s all about!” Travis said in a statement accompanying the video, according to Outsider.
“Not to mention the fact that country music is alive and well in this new crop,” he continued. “Drew nails the vocals on this – I’m so glad he went in with Kyle Lehning to record alongside mine from all those years ago.”
Travis collaborated on this music video with country music singer and songwriter Drew Parker, who loved working with Travis on it.
“There’s nothing like celebrating your favorite holiday by singing one of your favorite songs with one of your heroes,” Parker said. “And that’s exactly how I’m spending this Christmas.”
This was the first music video that has been released by Travis since his devastating stroke in 2013.

Collaborating with Travis on this music video is an experience that Parker will never forget.
“I just remember getting to spend quality time with Randy and his family out on his ranch in Texas,” Parker told KFDI. “Driving around the property and getting to take in all of God’s creation with one of my heroes. It was a very special day and one I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
“I hope [country music fans] can see that I plan on carrying on the kind of country music that Randy started years ago,” he added. “The kind of music that I want to make [is] country music about fun, faith and family.”
This was a particularly incredible experience for Parker because Travis has always been an idol of his, and Christmas is his favorite holiday.
“Getting to feel those Christmas traditions and emotions while watching a video of me getting to spend time with Randy Travis is incredible,” Parker explained. “There’s a scene in this video of me and Randy sitting on a couch in his awards room at his house. We shot that scene one time and when we got done I told the director that whatever had just happened in that room couldn’t be replicated.”
It’s so nice to see Travis making music videos again! You might want to have some tissues handy before you watch this music video, because you’re going to need them!
