Weeks after the fatal shooting on the set of the movie Rust that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, actor Alec Baldwin has been hit with a lawsuit accusing him of playing “Russian roulette.”

Baldwin Hit With Lawsuit

Famed lawyer Gloria Allred held a press conference on Wednesday announcing she will be representing Rust script supervisor Mamie Mitchell, who has filed a lawsuit against Baldwin and the producers of the film.

Mitchell, who was the first person to call 911 after the shooting, is claiming intentional infliction of emotional distress, and deliberate infliction of harm in the lawsuit, which also names armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, prop master Sarah Zachry, and assistant producer Dave Halls.

Daily Mail reported that in her suit, Mitchell alleges that Baldwin “intentionally, without just cause or excuse, cocked and fired a loaded gun” even though the upcoming scene “did not call for the cocking and firing of a firearm.”

‘Baldwin Chose To Play Russian Roulette’

“Days before the shooting there were warning signs that there were dangerous conditions related to guns on the set,” Allred alleged to reporters. “A camera operator had reported two gun discharges during a rehearsal in a cabin. ‘This is super unsafe,’ the camera operator wrote in a text message to the production manager.”

Allred went on to list out some safety protocols that were not followed on the set, including having live ammunition there and having people other than the armorer and prop master handle the guns.

She also claimed that Baldwin was aware that he shouldn’t rely simply on the assistant director stating that the gun was safe, saying that the actor was effectively playing “Russian roulette.”

“Mr. Baldwin chose to play Russian roulette when he fired a gun without checking it and without having the armorer do so in his presence,” she said. “His behavior and that of the producers on Rust was reckless.”

Mitchell Breaks Down

Mamie Mitchell broke down in tears as she recalled the shooting itself.

“I turned and my director was falling backwards,” Mitchell said. “Halyna was falling to the left of me.”

The script supervisor added that she “ran outside” and called 911 “for help.”

“She was on a stretcher and not moving… her left hand was on her stomach… it was blue,” Mitchell said of Hutchins. “I could not believe this was happening.”

Here’s more information about the lawsuit claiming he intentionally fired the gun:

Mitchell, who has been a supervisor for 40 years, went on to say that the shooting left her devastated.

“I’ve also lost a new friend who was an extraordinary and rare person,” she said of Hutchins.

“I’ve been robbed of my new friend,” Mitchell continued, saying that she is “heartbroken” for Hutchins’ loved ones.

Mitchell is the second crew member to take legal action, with the other person who has filed a suit being the set’s gaffer Serge Svetnoy.

It’s likely that more crew members will be filing lawsuits as the investigation into this shooting continues.

It remains to be seen if criminal charges will be filed against Baldwin or anyone else who was involved.
